there is no definite time for stents to be "expired",but restenosis is common and is cumulative ,time depened largely on diet, exercise ,smoking ,medications including lipid lowering agents and antiplatelets(aspirin and plavix)

whaattt???... the idea is that a stent is inserted to enlarge your life span. if your coronary arteries are restricted, your heart will start to suffer from the lack of oxygen...and the most common sign is the angina , most of the people with restricted coronary arteries have it...
the stent is covered with an anti-coagulant, so that you don` get blood cloths on them....there is a very big possibility that the problem won`t appear after 3 years.
by the way...if u say that your heart is ok...how did the doctors discover the restricted arteries? because I heaven`t heard of coronarography used as a mass-screening technique, you must have had at least an angina or some EKG altering.
take care ! and i think you should`t have to worry about the stents.

If ones condition is severe enough to warrant a stent, and a stent isn't inserted ... that will for sure shorten ones life span. As to the type stent, the expected life of a particular stent and what happens at the end ot the life of a stent, better ask your cardiologist. S/he is the person who knows your history and health condition.

I just had an 95% LAD blockage stented and found I have three other fairly major blockages! I had the drug coated stent to which my cardiologist says is SUPERIOR to the old stents and will last much longer without problems. If I do re-clog he tells me they just restent or bypass surgery! Either way, I think our life span isn't compromised given todays technology!
Take a deep breath and don't lose sleep-stress will get you!
I take life one day at atime and to it's fullest! NO GUARANTEES for anyone-good heart or not!!!!

I sure hope the stents will last for more than 3 years. Last year, my 1st stent (not drug coated) was blocked with scar tissue. I underwent another angioplasty and they were able to insert 2 smaller stents into the original stent. Check with your doctor for prognosis. You should be having tests periodically to ensure that your heart is getting blood supply/oxygen it needs. Try to live a good healthy life style and you should be fine with checkups. The best to you.

there are several types of coatings like gold, flourinated polymers, heparin, polyurethane etc, drug eluting stents are something which reduces the risk of thrombosis and with minimal possibility of reactions.

You have asked a good question here. Regrettably you brought it to a location on the Internet where good people could unintentionally give you bad counsel, even as I have done, here on Yahoo Answers. Your question is more important than that and you should seek a more qualified assessment than you might find here.
There are some places on the Internet you can type keywords in to find web sites with a world of information that can help. Some are http://search.yahoo.com , http://google.com , and http://Ask.com just to name a few. There are other search engines on the Internet that are highly specialized in the kind of help you seek such as http://www.webmd.com/.
You really should consult with your doctor on this matter. And it won't hurt to get a second opinion.
Good luck in your endeavors and I hope you find the answers you seek.

after three years you get new ones. In the meantime, the purpose of the stents is to increase your life span......obviously.
God bless.
