My 2yr old son has VSD since birth & his doc insisted an open heart surgery be done ASAP. the thing is, my child has never turn blue or become breathless & no feeding probs watsoever, signs tat the doc said we shld look out for. So i'm sort of not keen on doing the surgery as of now. What will happen if we go for the surgery when he's bigger?

Hes the expert babe, quit second guessing him. I think he probably want to do the surgery while your son is in his best health, the last thing you want to do it wait until he is suffering from any sort of damage that would weaken him.

A good dr wants to do surgery only when necessary and preferably before it is an emergency. I know its scary for you, but sweetheart you have to sort of suck it, let yourself breakdown, and go ahead with what is required while your little boy appears healthy.

I'll pray for you hun.....but do what the dr says! You can go get a second opion, even a third if you want....

I just lost a patient to VSD. His developed after a major heart attack.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's problem, but this is a life threatening problem, not a game or something that he'll outgrow and the longer you wait the harder you will make it on him. He may not have obvious symptoms now, but as he grows he will develop more and more problems.

Are you planning on waiting till he's almost dead to do anything for him? If he turns blue that means he's dying and is not getting enough oxygen to his organs. Shortness of breath is another sign that he is on his way out of this world. If you wait until he starts to show these symptoms his chances of surviving the surgery drop significantly as the surgery will be a life/death emergency at that point. You are playing Russian roulette with his life. He should have had the surgery already.

If it were my child, I would get a 2nd opinoin and then get it over with before he gets old enough to be scared out of his wits.
Are you in denial? Take care of your little one now and get it behind you . I had heart problems for years and waiting did not make it any better. As a matter of fact, it made it worse.
Is it a money problem? If it is, you can apply for assistance thru medicaide and other charitable agencies.

VSD will cause heart failure if not closed.
Although the kid is in agood shape so far, it is better if you close it soon. The sooner is the better but there is no emergency.
Ask your doctor to refer you to a cardiac surgeon & he will explain to you better.
I wish your child an extended health.

Honestly I would get a second opinion from another doctor, it would be hard to listen to anyone on the net so I would seriously ask another doctor or maybe even a few other ones.

Pretty much that is the only way to do it safely.
