Yes, for the balanced intake of overall nutrients. "Consumption of animal flesh" sounds really yucky, why not change it to "consumption of meat"?

Although animal flesh does have things like protein, and vitamin B12(which is found almost only in animal molecules), we can easily get by without it. With all the fat that is found in meat, it is a lot more heart healthy to take on a veggie diet. Vitamin B12 is the trickiest nutrient to find elsewhere, but not impossible, as it's in fortified soymilk, and multi-vitamins. If someone cuts out only flesh from their diet(goes lacto-ova vegitarian) this isn't a big concern anyway. Protein, iron, etc. aren't much of a concern, as long as a person eats a relatively healthy diet. Eating things like nuts, beans, green veggies, tofu, chickpeas, and soy products, or fake meats, will give you more than enough of what you need.

Not any more. Back in ancient times it may have been neccessary because they did not have all of the resources available to people in Industrialized nations. If you live in an industrialized nation, we have many alternatives that are just as healthy like soybean, for example. The only time you may run into trouble, is if you are a vegan. Animal products such as milk, and meat contain the vitamin B12. You can only get this vitamin naturally from animal products. It helps in the production of red blood cells. If you do not get enough, you can easily become anemic. It's easily remedied, however, by taking a good multivitamin. Therefor, take a multivitamin and stop eating meat. It's as easy as that.

No..humans do not need animal flesh to be healthy.

Protein is in everything and the easiest to get so some answers here are from people that know nothing about nutrition. I eat whole grains, soya products and nuts and get the right amount my body needs on a daily basis.

I would first like to say that Ricardo P is a very enlightened individual and it takes people as such to make" Changes". Next just for the ignorant who dont believe you can get plenty of protein from plant sources, here is some more info.. Almonds, Amaranth, Barley, Beans,Brazil nuts, Buckwheat flour, Bulgar dry, Cashew nuts, chickpeas/garbanzos, cornmeal, couscous, hazelnuts, lentils, macadamia nuts, peanuts, pecans, quinoa, soybeans, tempeh, tofu, walnuts, wheat flour white & whole, white beans,,ect...Also most of you people saying that meat is good ,you are probably fat! Enjoy!!!

Being vegetarian for me is something different. Population of homo-sapiens has exploded- unaturally. Population of animals whom we eat has not. So it is neccesary that we try to be vegetarians and be more efficient in using the solar energy available as whole (Know how many plants cow has eaten before you eat it?)
For carnivorous animals it is OK to be a meat eater as their population is very less. So they are just controlling their prey. We can decimate them in a day if all are eating just meat!
Also, I find veg food delicious!

Oops I forgot. Biomagnification too. Harmful chemicals get accumulated as food chain goes up. so non-veggies get more concentration of harmful non-biodegradable chemicals.

Yes, it is one of the most dense and compact forms of protein on the planet.

Which brings up the next point: If everyone in the world went vegan we would have to strip off a lot more land and put it into production to offset the loss of animal protein as a dietary consideration. How much uncultivated land will everyone be willing to strip of trees and native plants (not to mention denying wildlife a native habitat) to supplement the human diet?

It's a dilemma isn't it?

If flesh of pink meat can defile someone, then the flesh of any beast can do the comparable. it is not what one eats makes him good or undesirable, yet what he does and says. someone gets defiled via undesirable character and evil practices, not via eating meat or eating wine.

It is not that important but your body needs some nutrients which veggies cannot fulfil. That is why you should have animal flesh but not in major but minute quantities.

Hmm. For me, it's important not to, but I don't believe it's wrong. Most people don't really care. They think meat it good, and they don't care if it's an animal or not. Few people are extreme either way.

Animal flesh is a protein - we all need protein however there are other sources of protein that can be substituted - nuts - beans - et. al.
