I won't buy it where the outbreak is at but this is in reference to raw spinach. Also, it is very strange to use manure on veggies that are for eating as the impurities of the manure will seep into the water and the infected water is soaked up by the plants. I only eat spinach when it's cooked anyway. Makes you wonder about other salad produce like lettuce and tomatoes etc :o.
Crockpot Lasagne
1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 med. onion, chopped
1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce (approx. 26 oz)
12 oz container cottage cheese
1/2 grated parmesan cheese
1 egg
12 oz lasagna noodles (no need to cook!)
12 oz shredded mozzarella cheese (reserve 1/2 cup)
Directions:
Brown meat and onion in skillet. Drain off fat. Add jar of spaghetti sauce and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes (if the sauce is too thick, you may want to add about a 1/2 cup of water to thin it). In a separate bowl, combine all the cottage cheese, parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese (except reserved 1/2 cup) and the egg. Mix thoroughly. Spoon a layer of meat sauce onto the bottom of crock cooker. Add *two* layers of uncooked lasagna noodles (broken into small pieces to make them fit) and then top with cheese mixture. Repeat with sauce, noodles, and cheese mixture until all are used. Sprinkle reserved 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella on very top. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for approximately 3 hours.
Serves 6-8.

I bought a bag of 100% organic spinach today. Gonna make spinach & mushroom lasagna in the crockpot. The crock temps will kill whatever might be there.

No, I won't think twice about it at all. I still buy it that way. Sometimes there are reasons why people end up with these type of problems. Undercooking meats is one big cause, as is going to the bathroom and not thoroughly washing ones hands afterward. And the list goes on. Undercooked chicken, and undercooked pork is probably the biggest problem areas.

I think some people answering this question haven't read the report. It's raw spinach in premade salads that are causing this issue.
I really think people will soon find out they need to grow their own food or buy direct from a farmer in order to eat safely in the future.
They are using cow manure to fertilize spinach which is eaten RAW and not cooked.
This is not smart. They need to do something else I believe.

I realize that E. Coli is a big issue now, but it has always been a big issue with ALL produce. My sister-in-law nearly died from it in 1964 from eating unwashed fruit. I prefer unpackaged stuff. I feel better about washing them myself. Also there are some spray cleaning products you can use on your produce now.

Yes. If I have to wash it again anyway, I may as well chop it up from scratch and save a little money, too.
