there are 3 kinds of tests; one is a swab test where they swab the blisters or sores; the 2nd and 3rd are both blood tests, one of the blood tests will tell you if the herpes virus is in your body. the other blood test will tell you what type of herpes you have, hsv1 or hsv2. for the blood tests you don't have to be having an outbreak. hope this will help your friend.

If your friend thinks she might have herpes and had her first outbreak she would definitely know. Genital herpes outbreaks have a very distinct pain. I was in so much pain I was prescribed Vicodin. I also had to call off of work for 2 days because I could hardly walk and even sit down. Was she in a lot of pain when she had those few sores?

Genital herpes is usually diagnosed by a physical exam, a swab of the fluid from the sores, and sometimes a pap smear for a woman. There is also a blood test for people when they have no sores present, but, I have read this can sometimes be inaccurate. Sometimes doctors will order two blood tests to make sure the results match.

If she thinks she has it, she can always get a blood test done for it. Then she'll know if she really does have it or not.

Based on what you say, your friend probably does have herpes- and she can be tested accurately even without symptoms. A Western Blot test (google western blot test for sites) is a 99.5% accurate blood test. It will give her the results she's looking for- also, Planned Parenthood can refer her locally and confidentially. Go with her, she'll want your support. I promise you it's NOT the end of the world, and it will get better with time. Fifty-six million people currently have it, and the numbers grow every day. Awareness, education and honesty are her best defense, as is the realization that there's nothing wrong with her for having it. Many, many other people do and don't even know it. I've personally had herpes for over fifteen years and although I was devastated at first, can count on one hand the number of people who've had a problem with it. One even came back a year later, better educated and wanting to start again. I know that having it completely blows, but there really are worse things to have to live with, and she is truly in good company. DO NOT let her fear her future, define herself, or lose confidence in her worth based on this- it does not make her selfish, immoral, ignorant or stupid, and it is not her fault, regardless of what others ^ might say.
Namaste.

If she has ever had a cold sore = herpes!
So don't drink after her or share her makeup- NO joke!

1 in 7 adults have herpes... so that's pretty scary.

It can still be transmitted without a breakout, she must always use condoms and dental damns for sex or she is just a carrier of the disease.

Be a good friend and check it out on line at Webmd.com
The symptoms are managable, yet it never goes away.

If she has herpes already she's already had the worst outbreak she'll ever have being the primary outbreak. It does get better with time and most of the time the outbreaks are mild. It feels the same way it does when you wear pantyhose or bicycle pants too long (to me). It is not the end of the world. 1 in 4 people have genital herpes. A good place to get info is from Westover Heights Clinic. They have a very good booklet you can download. My doctor gave me the very same one when I contracted it.

Please see the webpages for more details and images on Herpes labialis (oral Herpes simplex), Genital Herpes (Herpes simplex virus)
Genital herpes:
A common infection caused by the herpes simplex virus type 2 or type 1.
Type 1 is commonly acquired through oral sex, while type 2 is transmitted through sexual intercourse.
Symptoms include small blisters in the genital area which rapidly break down to leave painful ulcers.
Other symptoms include pain or difficulty in passing urine. Some patients may develop headache and fever.
Herpes infection during late pregnancy is potentially dangerous to the baby during labour.
Herpes is a life-long chronic condition which cannot be cured.
However, there are antiviral drugs available which can reduce the severity of symptoms.

if none of the symptoms are present then why does she might have herpes..???

if she gets tested she would no be tested positive if doesn't have any symptoms

herpes is only present for the people who have had chicken pox once in their lifetime and it comes when the bodies immune system is too low ... and it's too painful when it comes (atleast for 2 weeks) and any part of the body will be itching and blisters would rise at that nerve after a period of 3 to 4 days...

tell her to check it out just in case because once it comes , there are chances that it can spread chicken pox to others ...

Wow, sweetie, your friend needs to seek medical attention asap, not just advice. Of course the test would come up positive! STD's are not that appearable in women, more symptoms appearable in men (burning sensation when urinating, etc bumps around genital area, etc). Do you'll have Sex Ed. where you'll live? They didn't give you'll a pamplet or little yellowbook with all important information and numbers regarding many different topics for teenagers, like Sex, STD's, AID's, drivers license, jobs, etc.? There is nothing to be ashamed for, she need to go to the doctor's, ER, community center, somewhere where she can get some medical care ASAP, whether she has insurance or not. Why are people afraid to go to the doctor? I am going to school to become a nurse, right now I am a Patient Care Technician so I am still curious to know why people wait till the last minute or have to be forced. She was aware of what could happen when she was doing whatever she was doing, with whoever or how many she was doing it with. She was not using good judgement. Why are these young girls still playing with they bodies? STD's are not something enjoyable/comfortable/pleasurable or anything to be proud of, taking multiple medications, trying to live a normal lives, (does commercials trip me out "I got genital herpes, aand I live normal and I feel good, blah, blah, blah, a lie, maybe %25 of the time, not 24/7 365 though, the medication cannot be that good?). I wonder do those people really suffer from genital herpes? I wouldn't do that commercial, I don't care how much they pat me, that sticks with you for a long time, people will remember your face everywhere you go) some curable, some not, like AIDS/HIV. This is serious, the AID's epidemic is taking over our communities and neighborhoods, taking the souls of our young people. She needs to become abstenence after this, she needs to refrain from any and all sexual activities. I mean think about your future, one day a man may want her, want to marry her, and have kids and be a family with her, all that is not easy if you have genital herpes or AIDS, no mean really wants a woman with a disease, unless he really loves her and has it to, and he gave it to her, vice-versa, I mean you don't want your child to suffer, and be on all types of medications, just because of your choices, selfishness and bad decisions. When you do something in your past, you regret it, but it may haunt you in your future, she may never be able to bear a child (God forbid). She needs couseling and advice from someone who is suffereing from AIDS or any other uncurable diseases, who seem healthy and normal, but are actually living in pain. Then she wil respect her body, her life and the people who are suffereing in this world. I am not referring to you in all this, I know you are asking about your friend but I am just saying all this in a general perpspective. Herpes is not nothing to joke with. I do not know your friend and cannot judge your friend, but for her safety please tell her to stop. Be a big sister, be more than a friend, don't down her or disassociate yourself from her. If she has one sex partner, or maybe multiple sex partners she needs to advise them asap, see that I how all these diseases will spread, resulting in AIDS/HIV. AIDS is the worst killer amongst the A-A community, and many other races Caucasian, Hispanic, not just gays, lesbians, homosexuals, drug users, it is everywhere not just in Africa, all over the United States, in suburbs, cities, rural areas, all over the world. That is all I have to say. You need to take your friend to the doctor if she is in denial or disbelief, or afraid. Be a true friend she can get the help she needs faster if she gets to the doctor immediately.
Bye

I believe that she needs to have a break out for the testing to be accurate, but you may want to tell her to check out Web M D just in case.
