I do not want to hear if you think it is too early . . . I plan in advance and my plans don't fall through. I also don't want to hear anything vulgar. It is a black and white themed party, it has nothing to do with the race of people so please do not leave any race comments either.

Tell your guests to wear black and white but to be creative with their outfits. You might end up with guests in black bathing suits, tuxedos, sweat suits, etc. That would be fun. Keep your color scheme black and white but add another color, maybe gold, for an accent.

For invitations:

Write your party details on a plain white card and place in an evenlope filled with confetti. You can mail or hand deliver.

How about Champagne glass invitations? Buy some cheap plastic ones and write your party details on it with a black permanent marker. Tie some colorful coloring to the stems and hand deliver or mail in small boxes. If you hand deliver consider filling the glasses with candies.

Or write your party details in black in on a white card, and glue the white card onto a slightly larger black card. You can punch holes and embellish with ribbon.

Or even make your own newspaper invitation using headlines from the past 12 months. With your party the main headline.

For decorations:

Lots of black and white......streamers, plates, napkins, ballons, cups....everything lol.....

Fill deflated ballons with large spoonfuls of confetti. Simply insert a funnel into the mouth of the balloons before filling with helium. Take the ballons to a party goods store to be inflated or buy a prefilled tank and do it yourself. Some party goods stores have them for rent and if not Wal-Mart sells prefilled tanks. Tie the balloons shut with long ribbon and allow them to float around the cieling. At midnight simply pull one down by the ribbon and pop over a friend's head.

Make sure you have plenty of hats, horns, and other noisemakers.

Since it is a black and white party I would serve......black and white food. Food dye can help with turning regular food into black colored food. Serve virgin Pina Coladas and chocolate flavored coffee.

I am assuming you want activities too?

"When did it happen?" Pick out 12 events or OBCSCURE holidays and have your guests write down the month they think it happened in.

"Predictions" There are several ways you could play this. You could give each guest 5 other guests name to write a prediction about you can have them funny or serious. Have everyone read theirs aloud and give a prize for the one the guests vote the most and least likely to come true.

A variation is you, the hostess, makes enough predications for each guest to have one, funny or serious, and have a small gift that corresponds with each one. Have each guests pick one out and read it. They then get the gift that corresponds with their prediction.

Have a white elephant exchange. Ask each guest to select the worst, ugliest, or most useless present they recieved. Have them wrap it beautifully and bring it to the party. Place all the gifts on the table. Have the oldest guest select a gift and unwrap it for all to admire. Then the next oldest gets to make a choice, open a new gift or take one that has already been opened. If they chose to take an opened gift simply have the person either open another, if you chose to allow people who had their gifts opened chose to take another opened gift you need to set up some kind of rule. That is your choice. Continue until all the gifts have been opened. If you want have people say which "gift" the brought.

Ask your guests to make a list of phrases that have to do with black or white. "We're finally in the black." "She turned as white as a ghost." Have the person with the longest list read theirs aloud and have the other guests read off any they have that thwe winner did not. You can give a prize to the one with the longest list. You might even want to give a prize to guest who had phrases the winner did not.

Prizes/Favors:
Books about Astrology or predicting the future
Clock
Humerous Calender for the new year
Diet Book
Bottle of Champange
Fancy coffee mug with a packet of coffee and ansprin inside
Bag of fortune cookies
Funny list of predictions personalized for each guest (a great do it yourself gift)
Quit smoking or other vice book
Packet of seeds to plant for the new year
Alka Seltzer
Poloroid pictures taken during the party.
The Newsweeks "Year in Review" rolled and tied with beautiful ribbon (black and white of course)

Hope this helps!! And there is nothing wrong with planning in advance. It allows you to spread out your spending over a longer period of time. Enjoy your party!!

Play Michael Jackson's Black or White song (although that is a song about race and not colors). It is really easy to dance to and should get the party hopping. Other music you could play is Black Sabbath, The White Stripes, The White Album by the Beatles and the song White Room by Cream. Also, when you send out the invitations send out half telling your guests to come dressed in white and the other half telling your guests to come dressed in black. Finally, some mimes might go nice in a black and white themed party.

Black and white polka dots! Buy sticky, removable black and/or white dots at the office supply store, and go nuts, put them everywhere, on ballons, crepe paper, mirrors, anywhere they will stick and not cause damage..Chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, oreo cookies, vanilla ice cream cake with oreo crust, cupcakes with those little confectioners dots on them.. Put the jelly beans in a clear glass container, food source and decoration.
Buy a paper tablecloth and paint the dots. Use black and white round confetti on the tables. Buy hats and noismakers, and decorate them accordingly. Check the fabric store, it might have printed black and white material, or zebra striped, or striped, or squares for contrast.. If you have no sewing skills, hem the material with fabric glue. Make or buy favor bags, find trinkets to put in it to follow the theme. Check your local party store for utensils, plates, etc., check the over-the hill birthday section to find black items.
Other black and white ideas: a music theme, musical notes and sheet music, piano keys, old records or CDs, burn a white label, or stick one on.
For favors, a mini chess set, black and white note paper and pen,
take a black and white photo of each guest and frame it in black and white, a black and white frame,no picture,A CD of music with a burned white and black label. Wear black and white yourself, go find some black and white round beads to wear, go to the bead store, find someone with jewelry making skills, or string them on a cord.
Hope you find an idea here.
