Organic farms have to be certified and tested by The Organic Growers Association for a period of around 5 yrs. Which means that not only is the soil tested yearly for chemicals but the veggies are also tested to be free of pesticides or chemicals. You will find true organic veggies are way more healthy than the cheaper ones.
Also organic veggies do grow to maturety because the farmer uses garlic or soap sprays to ward off insects.

Dumb hippies? Well, we'll so who has the last laugh when you're dying of cancer because you ate pesticides and processed foods. Idiot.

It is currently more expensive because of what another answerer already stated. They have fewer crops due to not using harmful chemicals. But I believe that as the demand for natural foods increases (and it is) then competition will drive the prices down.

As it is the organic stuff isn't overly expensive. It is somewhat more but I wouldn't say overly so (in most cases) and it is really worth it. You're taking care of your body. Our most expensive bill is our grocery bill because we eat organic and natural foods. But I have no problems spending the extra cash on healthy food. You're talking about your health and your life.

It is more expensive because it is more labor-intensive to produce. Without chemical help, you have to do more by hand and you also have to deal with more spoilage. There is also a factor of supply and demand. Less organic food is produced than regular food, so if the demand is high enough, people will have to pay more for something that is in limited supply.

Because traditional farmers receive subsidies from the government to help keep the price down. Without the subsidies, non-organic food would cost the same as organic.

Healthy foods always cost more. It is expensive to be healthy. Less people buy natural foods, therefore, there are less profits for companies selling natural organic foods.

Cheap foods are readily available and full of preservatives. More people buy cheaper foods, thus, companies make more profits for selling these foods.

It's very hard top grow things without adding pesticides and other things to make it grow naturally, so they normally can't grow it out in a field like other Genetically modified foods. Also, by modifying it, it's harder for it to be eaten away all the time.

costs greater to purchase organic and organic nutrition via fact the yield is way less. whilst there are organic and organic a thank you to cut back down on weeds and bugs, none paintings fairly as effectively via fact the chemical components do. as an occasion, customary tomatoes might yield 10 bushels an acre( i'm making up the numbers) yet organic and organic tomatoes, via loss of a few tomatoes via fact of bugs ought to in keeping with risk in hassle-free terms yield 8 bushels in keeping with acre. To make the comparable volume of money to make a earnings, the organic and organic will ought to value greater to make up for the shortcoming of those 2 bushels.

Because less of it grows to maturity. Since pesticides, weed killers, and chemical fertilizers are not used much of the organic crops are destroyed by bugs and what does grow to maturity is smaller than produce protected by pesticides and weed killers and fertilized by chemicals.

Organic fertilisers are expensive and care of planting and cultivation is more time consuming and so costly. And they are healthy and tasty so market will pay for it too. Price increases based on that

Because the insects that would be killed by the pesticides get to have their portion of the food before it goes to market. Therefore more work, smaller crops.
