Congenital heart disease, is something you are born with..it can be genetic, something passed from one parent, or both parents can be unknown carriers of the gene and the defective gene can only be passed on to the child when the ova is fertilized. ..or one or more of your own cells did not do what it was supposed to do. Most hearts can be fixed this day and age.

congenital only means existing at birth. It can be hereditary, structural, or environmental meaning that it can be an Inherited disorder, it can just be a malformation (which is not necessarily hereditary, its just an oops) or environmental in nature meaning it was caused by exposure to toxin or injury during the time in the uterus.

Well if it is congenital obviously it is something you are born with. So it is a birth defect.
