I would have to agree with Karen N. there are too many variables here. I am an asthmatic, I was diagnosed at 1 year old. Currently there are around 400 different types of asthma, and there are many other respiratory disorders to consider from some previously mentioned like panic disorders to something as simple as a cold. The ONLY way to know for sure is to see a general practitioner, and if he/she is stumped move up the food chain! Something that might help you with your 'fear' of Doctors, keep one VERY important thing in mind when seeing them: THEY work FOR YOU! NOT the other way around, you are paying them for a service just like any other service provider (just a bit more educated than most!LOL)
Also try a breathing exercise were you completely relax (ignore your shoulders if you r tensing them while trying to breath), take in a normal breath and blow out a bit stronger than normal and a bit longer than normal....just a bit though...but please get to a Doc, and keep in mind YOU are in charge!
Good Luck...Hope this Helped some

No one can diagnose you without seeing you in person, but you do have symptoms that could be a variety of things. It is possible it is asthma, although it sounds more like you might be hyperventilating. Asthma must be taked seriously, so for your sake I hope it ISNT asthma. And, no you dont necessarily have to have a wheeze to be considered asthma. Many people just experience a cough and are misdiagnosed because they dont have a wheeze.
It also sounds like you might be having anxiety issues, which can be debilitating with the panic attacks, fear of dying, losing control etc.
Most important, on which we all agree is PLEASE see a doctor. No matter what you have, you cant deal with it until you know what youre dealing with! The medical community want to help you!

I have been in the same situation before. I wanted to focus on a lot of things and 'gasping for the air thing' destructed me suddenly in early Fall one day and bothered me like a fly. I tried to fix it like fixing a car but it failed. Just do the following: take 1 day over weekends and lay in a bad until lunch time and study yourself breathing. They main thing you need to detect if you really have wheezing. Go for a walk then and again observe your breaths in and out. See if you have even very small wheezing. Empty your lungs from air almost completely and try to feel if you hear any sound. Focuse on breathing out, not breathing in.
This will calm you down.

You have a blockage there. If you are afraid of doctors and hospitals go and see a good therapist. He/She will help you and it will be easier to find out if you need also the help of the doctor.(You might not need chemotherapy or , on contrary you might need it in addition to the treatment with the therapist). Let the thoughts pass away and hurry to the therapist being also ready to face a doctor if needed. DON'T EXPECT IT WILL DISAPPEAR JUST LIKE THAT! IT WON'T! I'm serious. And for the moment try to avoid exercising. Don't force the situation.

Seriously, even if you think you "just have asthma" you still have to see a doctor! I have asthma, it feels like you are drowning and can't get enough air into your lungs. Do you feel like that? If so, go get a test done (it's just breathing into a tube, it's not scary!)

I would STOP ALL PHYSICAL EXERTION until you know what is wrong with you. All you will get here is advice, only a doctor can help you get better.

It shows the symptom of asthama.
but sometimes when ur mind and body is occupied with many things can also stress U out leading to exhaustion to lungs making it difficult at times to breathe.
A few other reasons also can be due to pollution of air or polluted environment which might be getting U allergic.
Logically it could be possible also when you breathe in insufficient oxygen supply to your lungs which cud be causing gasping of air maybe for ur wrong way of breathing.
Yoga on breathing exercise is the best remedy for cure of gasping of air.It will help you develop correct way of breathing through the exercises and will help in building your lungs to grow strong to breathe well in future.

Go to the doctor before you're taken there in an ambulance. It could be something simple like a chest cold but it could be something worse too. If it's athsma it can be controlled but you gotta get a doctor.

If you're still in school go ask the nurse.

You won't know what it is or how to control it until you see a doctor. It sounds like you could have fluid in your lungs, but it could be something else. Either way, you have to see a doctor to find out and get it treated. You don't want to end up suffocating or having a heart attack, do you?

Sounds like asthma. Get to a doctor and make sure. And yes asthma is dangerous but currently there are excellent inhalers and medication available to keep asthma under control.
