If there are mostly 1-yr olds at the party, don't bother with too much "entertainment" or theme-stuff - - it will be lost on the kids. But if you have an older group of kids attending (3-5 yr olds) Look into a place like My Gym, usually can arrange for face-painters, clowns etc. And, for a stress-free party, not cheap, but they do it all for you, including goodie bags; check out Child's Play http://www.childsplayonline.net/ they are on Westwood Blvd near West Side Pavilion. I have also been to great parties at Under The Sea http://www.undertheseaindoorplayground.com/.

It's not worth the cash to have a clown for a 1 year old party. Save the entertainment for when the child is older.

I really just don't understand why you would want to go all out for a one year old. They will NEVER remember it. You should just have the immediate family there if anything. No child is going to ever say " Oh mom and dad, that clown you had at my first birthday was the best. I still remember that." Save your money for more important things for your child. I am not trying to be mean. Just practical.

I would reconsider this, as children as young as 1 year old are often frightened by clowns. Your son won't recall his first birthday party so you might want to tone it down a bit and wait until he is a bit older for the clown thing.

Clowns are creepy especially for 1 year olds. Skip the clown until your child is older.
