You don't need a second pap smear. It's basically going to tell the doctors the same thing the first one did.

I have had two abnormal pap smears the last 5 years. The first one, when I was 17 years old, eventually turned into cervical cancer. I only had one pap smear done, the colposcopy done (almost the same as a biopsy) and then the Leep procedure done. The second abnormal pap smear I had was about a year and 1/2 later. Again I had one pap smear and then another colposcopy.

You really don't need a second pap smear because like I said before, it's just going to confirm what the first one said. Hopefully your biopsy comes back okay and there isn't anything more serious going on. Good luck to you!

Yes b/c this happened to me. I had many atypical paps for a while which means it's of "undetermined significance." This just means it's on the border of being abnormal but they don't know why. Come to find out I have hpv. I got a biopsy 2 months later and my cervix was perfectly fine. I wanted a second pap too but they told me that it was not necessary. Since then I have went back every 6 months and I have had all normal paps. My doc said that my immune system most likely wiped out the virus. There are many strains of hpv some cause cervial dysplasia/cancer and others cause warts. Most women are able to wipe out the virus on their own but not everyone so make sure u go every 6 months for a couple years to make sure it goes away.

This just recently happened to a friend of mine too. She is 30 and was freaking out badly. They did a biopsy on her and then a second pap the next month even tho the biopsy had come back negative. The doctor then told her she wants her to have one more pap done within 6 months and if it comes back negative also, then nothing to worry about. I would definately see another doctor tho if you are uncomfortable with the information about the first doctor. Your health is much to important to not feel comfortable with info from a doctor.

Well cervical cancer is the leading killer of women, because it spreads so fast. if you wait to have another pap then it may be too late by the time you finally do get a biopsy. You should just do it. At the risk of sounding cleche, better to be safe than sorry.
good luck

HPV is a virus that causes genital warts on the cervix, vagina, and anus. There are more than 30 different strains of this virus. A biopsy takes samples of the warts from your cervix to test them to see if they are cancerous. Most times they are not. If you have the lesions on your vagina, you can get them cryogenically (frozen) off or another method that your physician prefers. For more info, email me. Happy to help
