I bought the red Sofrito and my BF's uncle said I should have got the green. Is there a reason or is he just stupid? (He is one of those people who contradict everything, so I don't know when to take him seriously or tell him to f*ck off.)

I mean Sofrito as in the sauce not the beans. I am using pink beans. And yes I'm still gonna make it, I just wanted some opinoins on the sauce. I've never made them before.

Hi, Im latin and I make my own sofrito and yes the rd one is find but the green stuff your uncle said to buy is called recaito which gives the food a dilicious taste. If you like to make your own sofrito write back I will send you the recipe. Im also very much into around the world foods and pastries so if there any recipe you want just reply. I have to say I've read most of the answers and for some reason every think that Sofrito is a bean and it not Sofrito is a combination of condiment, spices, green vegee, and herbs this is what sofrito is not a bean. Like I said above the green stuff is called recaito or cilantro I amke a mix of the two and get an amazing mix that you can use for all your food and you will be having people ask you who tought you haw to cook.

The red sofrito is fine ignore uncle know it all, some people use the green which is cilantro based. If I am making red, pink or black beans I like to brown some small chunks of chorizo (a dry cured spanish sausage) in a little oil with some finely chopped onion then add the beans, tomato sauce and if you are using dried beans water. What time is dinner?

i have no clue what tha man is talking about but if you bought the sofrito in the grocery store they pretty much are only red. its the home made stuff that are green. but theres another sauce that i use along with the sofrito thats green and its called recaito. its usually right next to the sofrito the beans turn out good withe them both along with the other spices you add. it wouldn't hurt to use just sofrito i prefer both. but anyways the man is just giving his opinion but just go with what you like. hope it turn out yummy!!

I cannot think of any kind of beans that don't sound good with rice ....if you know how to cook them!

I'm originally from New Orleans, where beans and rice means Red Beans slow simmered all day with a smoked ham hock, pressed garlic, diced onion and some bay leaves. Cook 'em till the beans start to fall apart and get mushy, then pour over a bowl of long grain white rice and serve with Tabasco sauce and plenty of toasted buttered garlic bread. YUM!!

You cook the rice, apart cook the beans any kind, put some oil on a casserole add chopped onion, tomatoes, add first the beans, then the cooked rice, some juice from the beans, add garlic, pepper as you like and salt, I used to ad some ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, because I like it, also some chopped cilantro

what does the sauce have to do with it? isnt it just rice, then beans separately? iunno, but i really do favor the "green" sauce better.only because its full of flavor yet just a little spicy..even though im a real fan of the hottest of the hot type of foods.

No reason at all, other than personal preference. I think the green may be hotter- more picante- but I'm not sure. And they look different. You/ll know something of what your uncle likes next time you make it for him.

it doesn't really matter that much, everyone makes it their own way. If you were trying to follow his recipe, then maybe you were wrong. But use the red and make it your own. My BF mom laughs at me cuz instead of lots of oil, I cook my chicken w/ a little oil and salsa to make it low fat and the salsa and adobo compliment each other and it's great. Make Arroz y frijoles Gringos hahaha!! Good luck

Any bean will work. I think green beans is stupid and likely to end up all mushy. I would use black turtle. Red would be good, too.

When you search "beans and rice recipes" most recipies are either red or black.
