I cook a lot, and we eat a variety from pot roast, chicken, steaks, all kinds of different ethnic dishes like italian, mexican. . .don't stereotype americans by what they eat! We like all kinds of food (I happen to detest fast-food!)

As an American myself, i notice we eat a lot of fast food and a lot of prepared or processed food - mostly out of convenience, we are such a busy nation! Constantly in motion. Who really has time to go to the farmers' market - the fish market, a butcher and grocery store and then come home to spend a couple hours each night of prep and cook time. No way. I will muster up enough energy once a week (if that!) to make a home cooked meal. The other nights it is restaurant, take-out, or prepared food that i am basically just reheating. Sorry, but true. Depending of what part of the region American live in, but basically most American will eat Fried Chicken, Greens, Cornbread, Mashpotatoes, and Corn on the Cob. Are BBQ, with Potatoe Salad, Bake Beans, and again Corn on the Cob. I have not yet heard of any American not eating this.

I like Pig Fat and Beef. Bacon, Rib-eyes, Catfish, Eggs etc. If it bad for me, good, at least I can die with a happy stomach. I learned to cook which makes a difference. Heck, many people going to die Starving when they had food everywhere. Many of us Americans can not cook anymore so we spend most of our money on the Fast Food as you think. But, we do order a Diet Coke to keep the weight down! :-)

American culture, like many others, has several levels. Generally, the younger people will eat in the fast food joints. Many others will choose foreign cuisine or fancy restaurants. Probably not very different than your own country.
