I know them as Whoopie pies. They are like big cookie type cakes that are cream filled. But Oatmeal Pies would be classified as such. Some people mistake Moon Pies for them but Moon Pies are marshmallow filled.

We have always called them Gobs in my house ands family, sorry don't know the meaning or origin of the term though.

Down here in the South we have a cheap imitation - the Moon Pie.
