When they decide to move her put of the SICU, generally speaking, she will probably still have the trach in place but be off the ventilator and able to breath all on her own, also, she will use a trach collar to hydrate and oxygenate and a passy muir valve to speak. She will be in a regular room until the doctors decide to remove the trach or decide to place her in a rehab/snf for extended trach care and weaning.

ICU means she is in very serious medical condition and needs a lot of medical attention from the nurse, usually two patients to one nurse. And with the ventilater it says she cannot breath on her own. I expect they will not let her leave ICU until she can breath on her own. Expect she will be in the medical unit when she leaves ICU and spend several days or more as to aid her in healing.

I know it is hard with her in the hospital. You take care and know the doctors will do everything to help your mother get well and come home.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Yes, they will place her in a regular hospital room for a few days to monitor her before sending her home. It really depends on what type surgery she had, to know really how long she will be hospitalized. Hope this helps a little.

Generally, they will wean her off of these things, perhaps keep her in the ICU for a little while to be sure she is ok, then move her to a regular hospital bed before sending her home. However, it is up to the doctor taking care of her and his/her preference as to her level of care.

Yes, she will go to a regular room. I'm sorry you both have to go through this. I'm a nurse with a lot of experience with people with ventilators -- write me, if you like. I'll pray for both of you!

Sure, she will be in a regular room a couple days at least before releasing her. Sorry she is ill. Tell her you love her, it will help her heal faster.
