My late husband was 11 when he found out. He was in a coma for a long time, and when he emerged, life as he knew it was never the same.
He died from congestive heart failure, brought on my diabetes, three years ago at age 50.
When he was diagnosed, they knew hardly anything about the disease. I am amazed he lived as long as he did, but I wish with all my heart that all these new advancements would have come sooner...I miss him.

My parents found out I had type 1 when I was 2 1/2 years old (I am 41 now). My brother got it when he was 7; my mom got it at about the same time my brother did.
