Hi my girlfriends and I are at Coffee Bean. I'm using their wireless internet to ask this question because we are discussing this very topic. I think that if you cook the meat well enough all the bad stuff in it will be cooked out such as the hormones and fat. Am I right? Also does coffee and coke cause cancer?

i have read all the answers to this question so far and i do agree that meat that is overcooked is bad for you and might have a potential to cause cancer. worse yet its dry and nasty tasting. but i have seen on medical programs that over cooked red meat is especially bad. i like my red meat cooked rare on good cuts such as prime rib or filet mignon and medium for everything else. just for red meat, poultry should always be well done, if you see any pink in poultry dont eat it. and as far as coffee or coke causing cancer i seriously doubt it. it might cause an addiction to caffeine. but do you remember saccharin, it was a sugar free sweetener that was used in alot of soda and in packets for use as a coffee sweetener. that has been proven to cause cancer, im pretty sure its not on the market anymore but im not 100% positive about that. i still remember when the big companies like coke and pepsi advertised there diet soda and saying it had saccharin and was just as flavorful as sugar but with less calories. i personally would rather have the extra calories and skip the cancer. and speaking of hormones, do you know how to make a hormone? dont pay her. LOL. yeah its a stupid joke but i had to throw it in.

The best answer you're going to get is "maybe". Thousands of exhaustive tests have given us no better answer than "For some people, such and such a thing makes one more likely to get cancer". Somethings do it enough to show up consistently in lab results (smoking, radiation, etc). Many things don't. In fact, it isn't untrue to say that anything and everything may give you cancer. Just like everything may give you allergies. It depends on your genetic susceptibility to a given substance, and the random chance that a given exposure to that substance triggers that science-baffling effect that leads to the cancer birth/growth.

Red Meats and Caffiene MAY give SOME people a slightly, nearly immeasurable boost in cancer susceptibility, in comparision to other, safer foods. Then again, it may not. Time will tell.

Meat is cancer causing not only because of hormones, but antibiotics and steroids fed to farm animals. Also, when animals are slaughtered, their bodies react with a natural chemical. And it's not just red meat. Poultry, and fish have the chemical and hormones too.
Coke and coffee don't cause cancer, but eating too much increases risks because it's not healthy. Anything unhealthy may cause cancer.

Cooked well enough? No, that will increase the likelyhood of cancer-causing materials, depending on the cooking method. You are better off with medium, from a cancer standpoint. You can't cook out hormones.

Lots of studies have tried to show that caffein encourages cancer, but it looks like the opposite may be true.

Go figure.

It "causes" cancer because carbonated drinks contain a type of water that has been purified using reverse osmosis. technically it makes the water "pure" but it also makes it chemically unstable, and more able to pull toxins in from the air. Over time it "pulls" important minerals and vitamins out of your body that can lead to a higher risk of cancer and osteoporosis. If it can eat battery acid off of your car, imagine what that is doing to your body. Red meat is bad only because it's pumped full of preservatives and hormones. As far as diseases they can be cooked out, but the meat is still tainted. *takes a bite of beef and washes it down with a pepsi* but lets all enjoy our slow death in peace ok?

What DOESN'T cause cancer? LOL It seems like everything does nowadays. My philosophy is don't go overboard on anything and you will be fine. Let moderation be the key.

good question, but i am sure studies have been conducted and can be read on-line, check medical journals.

i doubt that they cause cancer, and if they do, then i am royally screwed.
