I am interested in this man and a good friend let me know that he is HIV positive, the odd thing is it hasn't changed how I feel about him. It's really strange actually, I would just like to learn more about it.

It could be that your friend is misleading you by what she has heard through word of mouth. If a person has aids it is their legal responsibility to inform you of his condition( or he be faced with attempted murder)It is difficult to tell unless he had reached the point where lesions, black and blue marks, tired, lack of energy, all around physical appearance is scrawny, weak looking. you hope honesty comes into play here. Outright Ask is not an unusual question to ask the partner,no matter how awkward the question poses. men can be contemptuous is giving honest answers. when asked this question he generally answers No!
Always use protection!(you already know that)even though it takes a little pleasure away.
Don't have sex on the first date. and by all means stay away from oral sex. Ask around to people who you confide in if they know his sexual preferences and if he is looking for a jump as most men do(jump and dump). Or casually speak to him in a private conversation about it, never know you might get an emotional honest response. or if you wish your relationship to last both of you get tested for aids, this way he will feel eased if you take the test as well. Be careful and best wishes. B

Well, the best advice I can give to you is to use two condoms. Unfortunately, the HIV virus can seep through the teeny tiny pores that are in condoms, so just to protect you better, he'd either have to wear two, or each of you have one (they make 'em for females too). I don't know of any other way to protect you other than abstinence, and you're obviously interested in becoming intimate with him...I admire the fact that you like him for what kind of person he is and not judging him only because of a deadly STD. It takes one helluva person to put all that aside and be real with each other in that way! Good for you, and good luck with this man. I hope things work out for the best!

There are a number of organisations which will supply literature and references, but, in general, the need is to guard against fluid exchange.

The HI virus is actually remarkably prone to damage, especially in dry air, so regular hygiene and cleaning will guard against transfer via "third-party" objects.

Transmission from skin contact is unlikely, unless the skin is broken.
Saliva is not necessarily hazardous in itself, but keep in mind that even the slightest cut, or break in the skin can release microscopic quantities of blood into the mouth

The big risks are, of course, blood, faeces and semen.
With suitable precautions, risks can be controlled... and you have the advantage of being aware, and therefore forewarned.

I wish you every success and happiness, and salute you for not letting fear overcome attraction.

Even with a condom, you risk infection if there is any sort of leak or pinhole. It's not worth you dying over. AIDS is a slow unpleasant death. If he cares about you, he will refuse to get sexually involved with you.

You won't get it from just spending time with a friend. You can hold hands, hug, and spend time together. But be aware bodily fluids like blood or semen WILL cary the virus.

You must have a death wish or really hate your life. The only 100% method of not getting AIDS is abstainance. Or you could just be stupid like many other people, it's really going around.
