He refused to tell me. He has told me about the other people he works with. Would you make anything of this? I feel like there is a reason he doesn't want me to know, like he finds her attractive. We actually broke up over this. He said he would break up with me before answering. We had been together for five years. What do you think happened?

Actually, he is the controlling one. I can't have ANY male friends. He spit in my face for going out to coffee with a female friend a couple weeks ago. Also, he DID cheat on me about 4 years ago.

You did not ask a question, you implied he was cheating!!!
I would not dignify that with a response either!

You and your boyfriend who have been together for 5 years broke up over the fact that he refused to answer your question about a co-worker's appearance.

I don't know what happened, but it seems like something small just got blown out of all proportion because it does not seem to me like something to break up over. If your boyfriend didn't want to answer the question because he did find her attractive, what is so bad about that? I don't know if that is the reason, but also maybe he felt you were being unreasonable, jealous over nothing, or trying to control him (his feelings, ideas, behavior, thoughts).

However, why was it so important to you that he answer this question? Were you insecure about your relationship? Did you have a lack of trust?

Now my final question is do you want him back? Do you regret that your relationship ended over this question?

I think if you want him back, you should try to get him back. Perhaps tell him that the question is not as important as your relationship.

Good luck!

It sounds like you have tendencies towards controlling him. He probably thought you would go off the deep end in terms of paranoia and jealousy if you knew he worked with an attractive woman. You say "we broke up" I'm curious if that means YOU broke up because he wouldn't play your little mind game?
