This is open to Christian and non Christian answers. I am non christian but spritual and I do believe in God. I still love the teachings of Jesus because I wish the world had more love and forgiveness and acceptance and compassion. Most Christians I know seem to only condem in Christs name. They try to convert "sinners" by constantly telling them how bad what they do is and not telling them that God and Jesus love them. Even on this site 90% of the answers by Christians follow that pattern of telling people that one day they will burn in Hell for thier sins. I'm sure everyone knows John 3:16 but most christians need to look up John 3:17 "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." So To a Christian which is more important Jesus' love or the ultimate punishment for sin? Which should be taught?

Chuck,

You're absolutely correct. Of course Christians must not condemn sinners; we don't approve of the sin, however, but if we condemn and judge we just turn people off and make them totally defensive.

Christians.... Isn't it a sad day for the church when we find a non-Christian who is more Christ-like than some of us?

When Jesus walked this earth his purpose was not to condemn sinners but to show and love them. When we sin we ask for forgiveness and God forgives us instantly he does not keep on reminding us about or condeming us for the sins we have commited instead he shows us that he still loves us, why? because God is after love not hatred. Condemnation is after making a person feel badand guilty about themselves while love is about making a person feel wanted and loved.

Maybe people should stop condeming and then it would be easier to see God's love shining down on us.

So to answer your question, Christ's message of love and compassion is more and is the most important.

Christ's message of Love and Compassion is important and in my own opinion I just like to sow a seed and let God do the rest. I like to answer anybody that really needs help but all I keep seeing here are the citicizm and hatred but that is okay what hurts the most are the other christians that don't even agree with you and then tell you your reward will not be given in heaven. Please! give me a break I'm not here to find out if someone could praise me but I rather the world tell me off than christians because it makes you wonder if they are christians or anti christ.

There is a fine line that must be walked. Simply doing one or the other is not enough.

Teach too much of the "love and compassion" message, there is no repentance of sin... something that is necessary for salvation. Those are the ones that give Christians a bad name of hypocricy... the kind where any half-knowledgable atheist can point out and say, "Hey, doesn't the Bible say don't-do-this, but you're doing it? ...and that's why I don't like Christians, they're hypocrites". And in the end, those who proclaimed Christ as their Savior, but didn't repent, are worse off than those who never knew Christ to begin with.

Teach too much of the "sin and hellfire" message, and you scare everyone away, and those who do convert become legalistic, fearing that every little thing they do is sin, and wind up becoming recluses in life. They too are in trouble, since they become just like the Pharisees, making up laws that prevent you from coming remotely close to breaking a real law.

The balance is first allowing someone to see the sin within themself... allow them to realize how terrible sin is. *THEN* give the message of God's grace and Jesus' compassion. Then they can value both what it means to be in danger of hell, yet also what it means to have God's love upon them. To know that they are worthy of punishment, but because of Jesus' sacrifice, they are saved from the punishment. There is repentance, and a fuller understanding of the law as to prevent legalism.

I am not Christian, but I'll answer nevertheless. I'll choose love and compassion. It's a powerful message that the world has yet to hear with open ear. It's still very much around waiting to be heard amidst the noise of ego bashing. Love and compassion are seldom felt because we have eclipsed the source of these to which it came from - the one spirit that dwells within us.

Peace and be blessed.

Jesus life gives us the answers. He was loving first and tried to convert people from their sins second. For example, the adulterous woman. When the pharisees and saducees brought her to him to pass judgement on her, he would not. He commanded that any of them without sin could condemn her, but that he would not. They left in shame. He did not automatically forgive her at that moment though. He loved her, but sent her away to "sin no more" or to repent and seek forgiveness.

This is the same today. He loves all of us regardless of what we have done and this will not change, but he does ask us to look inside ourselves and find those things that are not in line with his teachings and work to eliminate these from our lives.

In the bible it says that LOVE is the most important of
the commandments, as Christians we should try to
bring others to Christ , but do it in a loving way

let them know that yes they sin, as all of us do ,
but that Jesus cared for us SO much that he took
the punishment for our sins so that if WE repent of
our sins & ask him for forgiveness & to come into
our lives, we will one day be in heaven & have an
eternal life w/ Jesus / God

take care

God never intended for us to condemn sinner because we ourselves also only sinner saved by the grace of God.

Instead, we are to point them to God in love and compassion. The purpose of sharing to them the Word of God is for the Holy Spirit of God convict (NOT CONDEMN) them of their sins and realising their sinfullness against God, ask for His forgiveness.
