It's about time that everybody started to speak English. There is no reason to preserve any other language as English is the only language that has any worth.

By the way, I know that Mandarin Chinese is spoken by more people, but try ordering a currywurst in Germany or paella in Spain in Mandarin Chinese and see how you get on. It's spoken by more people by virtue of a large Chinese population. It doesn't make it a worthwhile, World language.

How racist. But then, you knew that already before you posted the question.

A pretty short sighted approach to the linguistic value's and challenges. There are languages that allow for a more open attitude to local languages and dialects.

Native English speaking persons very often have a limitted ear to other sounds. And therefore English is unfit as a dominating language. Probably dutch, mandarin or portuguese are better options.

No, how boring would that be? English is an eclectic language and is composed of many other languages - Anglo Saxon, Gemanic, Latin, French, with many other words being imported from Indian, Arabic and other European tongues. Anyway, alot of the pleasure of visiting other countries is learning to speak their 'lingo' - 80% of communication is through body language.

I don't think that's racist at all. All the do gooders need to keep their hair on and stop being silly. How can it be racist? Lots of countries speak English. I am so sick of people jumping on the racist bandwagon. It would be good if there was a universal language and as far as I know English is the most known second language in other countries.

Absolutely most of the world (by land mass not by population before somebody points that out) speaks English anyway, so it is about time the rest picked it up.... Besides most non-English countries already promote the use of English as a second language so it shouldn't be too hard for the rest to do so.

The whole world does speak English, it's only those who do not speak it that are at a loss, Science, technology, and engineering are all done in English, if you want to go into any of these fields, and be successful, you had better learn English.

No! Everyone has different backgrounds, it's like saying that the whole world should dress the same. We are all different, and we should stay that way - there are so many different languages out there, why would you want to learn only one? If you don't understand, then pick up a english/whatever language dictionary and learn it :)

Yes and No,
Yes because it would make communiction alot easier but no because it will ruin the foundations of learning to speak another language and visiting a foriegn country. It would lose its appeal if everyone spoke english.

With the onslaught of the internet/mobile phones it is becoming harder and hard to understand people when they are using English anyway. It wont be long before the English language as we know it now is no longer used.

it depends because we kind of use our hands and picture without words to communicate and soon not in the to distant future there will be a language that everyone is born with and whenever this language is spoken everyone will understand

I agree the whole world needs to speak English!!! I was in Paris beginning of April and what a disaster I thought on ordering at a restaurant I would get a nice grilled seafood platter with fish, calamari, prawns etc. with rice and lemon butter sauce but because they didn't understand me and I didn't understand them I got a plate of steamed fish on a mountain of sauerkraut.... I don't even like sauerkraut!!
