Try an arrangement of you favorite flowers. You might also want to try some ribbons for flare. My wife says that the more nature you put in it. the prettier it becomes. (oh, I am a biker so, I went and asked my wife because she decorated our wedding) She said that this season is of purples and blues. Hope that helps.

If you're getting married in a hotel, there won't be an altar. You could put flowers on the available surfaces for the ceremony, but really no one notices them anyway. Elegant, grand centerpieces would make the reception area (which I think is the same as your ceremony area) look more special, especially if the centerpiece lights up somehow.

Are you wanting the altar to look Scottish or Celtic? Is the groom wearing a kilt in your family tartan?
You can get an altar for under $20 and make a VERY strong center point for the bride & groom.
One thing, don't serve haggis. :)

if you want the altar to look special what you could do is to get material to cover it say silk or satin in a complimenting style to your dress or the bridesmaids dresses, the cloth could be flat or draped (like pelmets) quite easy to do with a bit of needle craft.... or an alternative could be some tartan bows even have flowers trailing down the front. on top you could have various little posies of flowers or even heathers.... the list is endless and doesnt have to cost a fortunate.... material could be purchased from the market..... we are coming up to xmas shortly tartan bows always around for that and as for the flowers these could be artifical or even locally picked wild flowers......

Pick wild flowers from where you are having your wedding and make small arrangements with them.I even did this with my bouquets too, thistles, heather etc Loads of heather about just now so you could sctter it on the tables instead of petals.
Good luck

when my friend got married she wrote everyone's name on a pebble which she'd got from a beach as a name setting at the table and we got to take them home. really nice. you could maybe have a vase with thistles in on the tables instead of more expensive flower arrangements. You can pick wild ones.
