Haunch:
1) that hip or the fleshy part of the body about the hip.
2) a hindquarter of an animal.
3) the leg and loin of an animal, used for food.

Hip:
1) hip joint
2) the projecting part on each side of the body surrounding the hip joint.
3) the inclined projecting angle formed by the junction of two sloping sides of a roof.

A haunch is on an animal and a hip is on a person... though you can use the term for animals if you're an animal lover.

But, thanks, now you gave me a new idea of how to irritate someone I know. I'll refer to that person's hip as a "haunch," LOL!
