I have read through many questions here and it floors me the way that kids spell these days. I can not comprehend how they passed high school.

The tragedy is that they cannot be 'bothered' to learn their own language so what chance have they of acquiring other languages. As a mother I insist on the proper use of language to ensure they have the aptitude to learn other languages.

You can always dumb yourself down to 'fit-in' but if don't possess the skills you can hardly pretend.

Its a tragedy.

I don't want to blame it completely on computers though. I understand the importance of having good spelling abilities, but also use the computer to my advantage. If I don't know a meaning to a word, I can look it up without carrying around a huge book. Spelling starts in Elementary, not in High School. Once you hit that point, you no longer do spelling exercises. By then you should have the abilities to sound it out.

:D So the thing is, a lot of kids never actually learn that at a young age because they're spoiled brats, or don't have a good home life.

Schools are just so desperate to get kids out and say they have high rate of graduates that they overlook things like that.

And in a world where we have Spell Check and Dictionary.com, it's no wonder. We've become a society that is lazy and relies too much on computers to edit their work.

I feel the same way. I posted a question about people (Not just kids) saying things like "It's so fun" and "I got a ride to my work" and I was called a hater. No, I'm not a hater, I just like to read what they write, and I get tired of saying, "Huh?"

I wish I knew! But it's not only English, Spanish too! Seems, they never went too school! When I ask a question from the Holy Scriptures, They say: "Duh". It seems, like they don't know that this is Ask a question/ answer. And if they don't learn, their kids are going to be the same or worse!
