Eye blinking rate decreases dramatically and leads to dryness in the eyes. So don't forget to blink now and then.
Keep one arm length from the monitor
Use anti reflective glasses.
Try using 'refresh tears' eye drops
Look at different distances now and then. I mean you can look at anything other than monitor. A tree or a book near.
Rest, rest and rest!

Blink frequently. Take short breaks by looking somewhere else for a minute, looking out a window or at a picture for a few seconds every few minutes.
Anything to bring the eyes off of the screen and let them focus on something different and preferable, at a distance so they'll have to adjust a little.

dont stare at your screen for extended periods of time. Look away atleast every 20 minutes. focus of a point quite a way away. Get a glare protector.

Don't type in the dark, use a desk lamp or light always, don't sit too close, and make sure your brightness/contrast settings aren't set too high.
