I'm quite a young adult and spend this holiday at home, with my parents. i brought home some yaoi mang and anime, just to kill time - but my mother found them and started yelling that her daughter was gay! how can i convince them that i'm alright? i don't want them to suffer.

For those who don't know, yaoi is Japanese guyxguy fiction.

Both my parents are big homophobes but know I'm a Yaoi fan, and don't mind. This may be because ever since I was 12, almost 7 years ago, theyve known it. They accept the fact thatr I'm rather open minded about everything . Explain to your parents that it's a form of entertainment, and is actually quiet common for girls to enjoy it, and even for some guys. In this day and age, homosexuality is a lot more widely accepted. If your parents can't understand this, then they've basically shutting out something that's a part of you. Reading it doesn't make you gay. It just means that you're okay with it.

Just be yourself, even your mum and dad I am sure had crazy music fads. I know I did, They will learn to accept you for what you are not what you listen too, as long as you don't force your music on them and everyone else, I.E. listen to it on your own at a level or privately so only you can hear it

I have a friend who's into the same stuff. Would you like to join her little club?

She has the same "problem" as you, but can manage it well. I can get you in touch with her because I believe she can help you more with this problem than I can.

Let me know.

Talk to them, tell them exactly how you feel about homosexuals, but let them know that you are not one....just be honest.

It's not so unusual, tell them there are so many people like you, and it does not mean you are homosexual, they are just prejudicial in my opinion, and that is far worse.
