I think the main reason is because we are sinful people in a sinful world. Our pride keeps us from admitting that we’ve done anything wrong. Our culture is also a problem we have the mass media telling us that nothing is our fault and everything is to be tolerated.
Personal responsibility has been lost and a culture of blaming others has taken its place.
As Christians we need to be careful as well. We cannot focus only on works of being good. Even our best deeds are like filthy rags before the Lord. Our works won’t get us to heaven. Those that want to hear the lie that being “good” is enough have not had their hearts changed by The Lord. They need to pray and we need to pray for them that the Lord will send His Holy Spirit to change them, so they may be received by our Heavenly Father.
We as Christian must keep in mind what Paul said in 1Corinthians 5:12-13
12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person."
Paul is saying they should judge the sin among themselves, while still reaching out to the lost in Corinth. That is what we must do. We cannot accept sinners as our brothers and sisters but we are called to reach out to them.

Um, if they believe in heaven, and the possibilty of their after life there (obviously in the company of the lord), doesnt that make them Christian, maybe mixed up and non practising but Christian none the less. After all what is a Christian but a person who believes in Christ, ( I didnt say a "GOOD" Christian) and please dont say a christian is one who follows all the lords teachings as they are probably pretty rare, if someone suggests that someone is not a christian because they do bad things then they themselves must not be Christians as no one can follow the Lords teaching without goofing up a bit.
A small sin is a sin, there is no such thin as a little white sin. We al are in the same boat, hoping we will be forgiven.

Do you really believe that? isn't it possible that you are not on the right track and you're not going to heaven? I think everyone believes that he's doing the right thing (otherwise he would have converted!) but how could you be so certain? Just a quick question .. do you want me to lie to you and tell you that even though you're Christian you can go to heaven if you're a good person? Just think about it.

Actually most non-Christians really don't care. I am Buddhist and whether you speak good or ill of us, we really don't mind and accept it as part of your culture, not of your religion. Most Hindus feel the same and the Muslims I know also assume it is an American or a European thing that you seek to segregate other faiths by your condemnation. Your thoughts of heaven may be right to you, but we have own own thoughts and follow our own beliefs, and whether you accept them or reject them is neither here nor there to us. We believe in our faith and do not seek, want or need your approval.

Non-Christians don't really care what you think we're going to go after death: in heaven or hell. You are not going to decide it nor any human knows who is dear to God and who is not. If you are really interested in religion and in "Who shall go to heaven?" try to get more information about religions and consider it open-mindedly. Whatever you have said, isn't perhaps your fault. You have said whatever you have listened from people who want to craet hatred between religions. I'm non-christian, but I don't hate christians. All human are created by God Almighty and he loves people who love his creation. God loves us all and he wants us to love each other. He treats us affectionately by providing us so much facilities of life. Do we pay Him some sort of bill for the service of sun, or moon or the rain? Try to see and consider thing with love and affection, not with hatred and narrow-mindedly. If you think and say this sort of things you've said in your question, you're only wasting your time and energy. Life is too precious to hate.

I feel that it would be unwise if we keep on asking and answering questions as people from two opposing communities of Christians and non-Christians, of theists and atheists, of believers and unbelievers ("not-yet-" seems more precise than "non-", "a", "un").
Because, in reality, we all belong to one noble family of humanity over all other creatures. Each person among us may have different thoughts, different views, different actions...and we are on a process of changing back and forth.
Perhaps each asker and answerer should give his/her individual views (because no communities ask us to talk on their behalf), and let the participants enjoy this free and friendly forum.

Part of being non-christian is a disbelief in heaven. Therefore if they do want you to say this then they have some issues with their beleif or you fail to understand what they believe in, either way somebody is being somewhat rude.
Personally I do not like this threat of heaven and hell forcing me to abide by what people who havn't earned the right telling me what to do. I am responsible for my actions in this world and I make my own choices and decisions. Some people may not like it but I won't have this idea of damnation thrust upon me to make me conform with a religion. It is the idea of not being held accountable in this world and deception that leads to good people doing evil things.

Somebody answered that it was God's choice on whether you made it to heaven or not, thats not true, its your choice. Its how you live your life, whether you're saved or not. God wants everybody to go to heaven, but you have the choice on whether you are going or not. If you want to get to heaven the only way to get there is through Jesus Christ. If you accept Him as your personal Savior, you'll make it to heaven, but it's your choice!

lol
good question!!
Because they want to continue living their lives in sin and selfishness and wickedness with no guilt or responsibility.
Oh, and "good people" are different than "nice people". You can't call a bad person a good person, like they think. They're bad. Period. No matter how "nice" they may seem. If they were turned inside out they would be the ugliest and most disgusting creatures out there!!

Whoever said that,
everyone is entitled to their own beliefs just let the matter lie, if people don't want to believe that Jesus is a God and is a man they will believe that.
