There aren’t really special names, or terms, for male and female hawks—just male and female! In falconry, though, male falcons are sometimes called “tiercels. ” There is no term for female falcons.

“Hawk” is an unofficial term for birds of prey that are loosely grouped together because of similar characteristics. Officially they are all from the Accipitridae family, which includes both hawks and eagles. Some of the birds that people consider to be in the hawk group include kites, buzzards, harriers, goshawks, and sparrowhawks.
