The Fair Tax has already been proposed and voted down by congress. See Fairtax.org for details. It is the best idea I have seen.

I could live with a flat tax too. It would sure simplify things.

No!

Poor people get unfairly taxed a much larger portion of their income than the Rich!

The rich's accountants and tax lawyers would find ways to circumvent taxes, while the poor, or middle income have few, if any!

If you made minimum wage and earned $10,000 a year you would take home $8,800! If you made a million you would take home $880,000! Who does the flat tax hurt more, that is if the rich even pay it? Think you could live on $880,000? What about $8,800?

You're on the right track. We definitely get taxed too much in this country. No democrat will support any tax plan such as the one you proposed, however. They will never favor the rich paying the same % as the poor, even though the total dollar amount is still much more.

there as always been a talk of 10 % but it will never happen -- rich pay 10 %, most crooked policitans have themselves hoopholes so they do not pay that much-- I 'll vote twice for that if they would let me it would save me 4 k in taxes
