Relax do not freak out...Worms ( or better known as intestinal parasites ) are VERY common in pets. Most puppies and kittens are born with them. Some of them are transmitted by fleas ( tape worms ) But round worms can be transmitted right from mom. Both are the most common. If you are just now seeing them, she has probably had them for WEEKS...no reason to put the pup outside now. Bring her to the vet make sure she is properly de-wormed (describe the worms to the vet, and or bring in a poop sample to the vet) and they can give u more info
Allot of internal parasites CAN be transmitted to humans (especially smallchildren, who do not use proper hygien, usually) Just make sure any "mess" in the house is cleaned up...vacuum, and was everything in hot water. Especially treat for fleas even though you don't see them. The best method for this is to see the vet. Allot of OTC flea meds can be toxic to a puppy. So please get it from a vet.
Make sure your kids wash thier hand frequently, parasites are transmitted Fecal to Oral, they would have to actually ingest the egg ( not the worm ) However there are a few parasities than can come thru the skin...usually not a general worry in america, but just WASH frequently, and don't freak out. Every pup you have ever come in contact with has probably had them...
*** sometimes it can be hard to see fleas, especially if there is only one or two, and depending on the breed and how furry they are...the vet can use a fleas comb and look for flea dirt. Even if there is no evidence of fleas, it is better to prevent them, then take the chance of getting them. If you do get them, and don't notice...they can be ridiculously hard to get rid of...

Best way to tell if your pet has fleas is to set them on a white surface or white paper and scratch their skin. Then look for little black specks that have fallen off. This of course will be the fleas poos if they exist.
Just get the dog some worm med at the vet and be real diligent about washing hands and no kissing the pet. This is what I have always done and had no problem. Good Luck! :)

Does it look like rice? That would be tape worm from eating the fleas. You should be able to take a stool sample to your vet that has his records and get deworm. Over the counter and basic dewormers do not kill tape worms. You need panacur or drontal. Panacur is done in three doses for three days. Drontal is one dose but more expensive and I think panacur works better. I ususally see a difference after two doses in my rescues ( and rescues come in with everything)
You and the kids will be fine just don't ingest any feces.

Get him to a vet! If the kids wash their hands well after playing, touching him, and before meals, they should be fine.

Yep. Best case, he's got some kind of bacterial discharge which they can give medicine for. Worst case....heartworms. So leaving him outside for a few hours isn't going to mean the end for him, but you need to get that dog to the vet pronto.
