The world health organisation recommends 6 months but every baby is different. There are a number of signs to look out for including baby having an interest in you eating and trying to grab your food, baby waking in the night from hunger (when it has been sleeping through) - This can be confused with a growth spurt so if this is the only sign then hold off for a couple of days to see if they return to previous sleeping pattern. Baby needs to be able to swollow the food (if they are not ready they will just spit it back out) babies weight not increasing is also another sign. I started my baby on solids at 4 months but checked it out with my health visitor first as this is still quite early.
