Does anybody know the good medicine or any other cure for anxiety atacks? They are becoming worse, interfering with my work and social functions.

Most of the time panic attacks are part of panic disorder, which is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Until you are on the correct meds (for YOU), it's very difficult to even concentrate on doing the behavior modification therapy.

Until you get to that point, let me share what my therapist told me years ago. This ONE sentence helped me a lot. "No one has ever died of a panic attack." It might feel like it, but I promise you will not die, and this condition CAN be brought under control, so don't give up!

Smoking nicotine is used extensively for this purpose. They say it kills you but they don't say when. It is quickly addictive.

The yogic drink of controlling your breathing helps if you can do it OK; probably not.

Otherwise, it is the human state. It might be worse in crowded conditions (I am a claustrophobe) so walking in the country may help. I think most panic attack victims are agrophobes so this does not work.

Drinking alcohol is a social method. It is not recommended at work, and all medicines (drugs) will interfere with performance.

I would highly reccomend going and speaking with someone and reading books on the matter. Educating yourself on this is the best thing you can do and gaining self control. I have horrible anxiety but am learning to control it more and more. I tried the paxil and other medications while I was in school so I could focus. All they did was make me feel emotionless and sick. I went through horrible withdrawl and it was the absolute by far worst experience of my life. Please educate yourself and consider medicine last resort.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

Do this.....breathe in for 4 seconds and hold for 4 seconds, then release for 4 seconds and hold for 4 seconds. Keep repeating. This is called Square Breathing and it does work!

just try to stay as stress free as possible. Maybe you have to change some of your living habits, and some of the people around you that might be stressing you out!
