My one year old daughter has had a stuffy nose for the past couple of days. I think she is starting to get a cold. She isn't sleeping very well at night. She wakes up several times crying and rocking her doesn't help put her back to sleep like it usually does. Does anyone have any tips on how to help her sleep better with her stuffy nose?.

Like Jen said, anytime mine had a cold, the ear infection went with it. She defiantly needs to see the doctor. In the mean time, you can take some luke warm water and put a little salt in it, stirring it real well. Then drop a small drop in each nostril, one at a time. Once you put the drop in there, use the bulb suction you got from the hospital. She will hate this, as it is annoying to feel that in your nose, but, it will clean her nose out so she can breath better. Do not put a pillow anywhere near her while she sleeps, baby can smother so fast. If you want her propped up while she sleeps, you can put the pillow under the mattress to elevate one end of the mattress.
Not being able to help your precious baby feel better is so hard on you. Just hang in there. And get her to the doctor when he opens in the morning. God bless you both.

give her a warm bath before bed and you can use Johnson's brand of baby washing called "soothing vapor baby bath". it's designed for use on baby's with colds..

put a warm air humidifier in her room this will help increase the moisture into the air she breaths and help break up the congestion

you can also use pedia care-it works great for stuffy noses. get the infant drops decongestant formula (orange box)

for her age (12-23 months) give her 1.2 ml or 1 1/2 droppers full every 4-6 hours but no more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

this will help relieve the stuffy nose and help her sleep

Raising the head end of the cot up slightly can help drain some of the mucus, as can sitting with them in a steamy bathroom for 5minutes before putting them down to sleep. A tissue with a couple of drops of olbas oil hung OUT OF REACH can also help. Ask the phamacist is there is a vicks style rub suitable for this age - this works a treat, but I can't remember the age recommendation on it. Good luck - take solice in the fact that most colds last no longer than a week - so sleepless nights should pass quickly.

You could prop her up on a higher pillow to ease her stuffy nose, she probably can't breathe well, that's why waking up. See a doctor and get some medication for her to relief the cold symptoms so she can at least have a good rest to recover faster. Some multi vits to boost her up, and warm clear chicken soup during her meals might help too. Be patient as no one feels comfortable when sick, that's why she's fussy and irritable. all the best.

Absolutely nothing other than putting her next to you in bed (kick him out if he kicks up a fuss) and just tolerate the sleepless nights for a short time. The fact that she is next to you will be an enormous comfort - especially when she is feeling bad. This will be the best way to settle her. She is only a baby so be careful what you give her. A baby needs nothing but her mothers love and cuddles to sooth her.

Its one of those times when you feel helpless. The only things I do is put her head on a pillow, try the Calrub (like Vicks but for children), and you can also get the herbal stuff for putting into the socket which acts like a vaporiser but you need to check you can use all these things together. Hope she feels better soon.

Hi!! I usually put 2 or 3 pillows below their head so that it remain elevated.in this way their nose don't get blocked and they take long sleep. you can also put 2 drops of saline solution in their nose this also prevents nose blocking and this has no side effect as other decongestant.

You may want to have her checked for an ear infection if it continues. My son's colds sometimes plugged his sinuses and caused him ear-troubles as well.

My suggestion is to try Vic's vapor rub on her chest. Just rub a little on her chest when you're ready to settle her in for the night. The vapors will help her breathe easier and best of all ~ no medication.
