I could not find where Baja was to be a part of the US... still looking for my own knowledge. however, did find out that Americans can own property in Mexico but it is nothing like what we are used to here. I have a feeling that the government could take it whenever they wanted regardless of what documents you might have. Here is the text I found.

Rules, restrictions remain
However, Mexican real-estate laws still differ substantially from the American system and there are many crucial nuances to consider before cutting a deal for Mexican property, say experts.
While foreigners can purchase real estate in their own names throughout the country's interior, they can only buy property in Mexico's "restricted zone" -- within 31 miles of its coastlines and 62 miles of its borders -- as the beneficiary of a Mexican bank trust called a "fideicomiso." In this arrangement, the bank technically holds legal title to the real estate but its beneficiaries, who are known as the "fideicomisarios," retain the right to use, improve, sell, and will the property as they would if they were fee-simple owners.
Closings pricey
The Mexican bank trust, which costs about $500 to establish, is good for 50 years and is easily renewable for another 50 years. Other costs, however, can add up quickly. There's a mandatory real-estate transfer tax, which averages 2 percent, a 1-percent to 3-percent fee for a government-appointed "notario publico" for processing and transaction certification, plus a bank appraisal fee.
"Buyers just have to realize that they are going to pay at least 6 percent to close a deal, as opposed to about 1 to 2 percent in the U.S.," said Stewart Title's Creekmore, who teaches classes to real estate agents on Mexican real estate. "While real estate deals in Mexico are more expensive ... some of that (extra money) goes to providing protective benefits to the foreign buyer. And once you do close, it's a little easier going, because property taxes are much cheaper and the trust fees are small."

Which was won? You mean like the American/Mexican War, a highly unpopular war started by Pres Polk when some Americans went way beyond the boundaries of the US, which was the Louisiana Purchase, into Mexico and then tried to annex Mexican territory, where they were illegally!

Hey, why not they do all the so called "dirty work" the lazy white people don't want to do. They rather stand on a corner and ask for money, Instead of working nowing well they can but it just lazyness. If it wasn't for the those "dirty mexican" you wouldn't have a vegatables, or any other crop that the white people don't want to pick,so the next time your at the dinner table eating stop and think "who picked it' who packaged it".

Why do you think it is illegal for Americans to buy property in Mexico? With your line of thinking why not take over the entire country. It has vast oil reserves and is a Heck of a lot closer than Iran & Iraq qhich I can quite imagine you would be happy to see bomb into the stone age. Next time you chomp down on a burrito ask yourself are Mexicans really that horrble, have they truly impacted your life? Peace....

You can buy property in Mexico,but we dont need anymore ILLEGAL Mexicans here.
And dont be like rainnken2000 and love them prolly has about 10 mexican kids and all relatives living with them

You are ignorant .Actually you CAN buy properties ,you can obtain direct ownership of property all you want ,just not in the restricted zone ( Constitutional restrictions)

Yes, I do. Mexicans should not be stereotyped into one category, it leads to self-stereotyping, which in turn leads to coincidental correlations between the truth and a stereotype. Mexicans can bring culture and a new identity to the US. I don't see what the problem is, and nothing is stopping you from going to Mexico, so seriously stop complaining.
