I am a mother of a 22 year old and a 20 year old. It was very difficult for me to see my daughter leave home. Yet I also felt before she left that it was time. When teenagers or a little older get to a certain stage in their lives, they start experimenting with their independence, and when your child starts showing you that they know more than you, and arguing, and clashing most of the time, then you know that it is time for them to get a job, and leave home. That to me, was the clear indication I received. It is sad, but all part of growing up. Go back to when you were at that stage, and I am sure, that there is not much difference. Good luck

I think it must be because when they reach a certain age, independence becomes very important. So it's all about being challenged to show `whos the boss' and it gets pretty hairy around the place compared to when it was little flossy two shoes! Now it's that grown up young person; who owns their own car; works, and is `on top' in their world. Mums and Dads don't seem to fit in. But it's ok because usually with experience comes the recognition that ones parents are pretty special people~! It was there in the first place; but gets lost along the road to asserting independance!

I regret my child will ever have to leave home. But then again he is still 4. But even now I sometimes wish my wife and I would have mor time to spend with each other. We live in a foreign country to our own so we can't rely on family and I don't trust any babysitters. You never know what you are getting.

So we just eccepted it as a part of life and go on.

I was not that way. But when they did leave home after college I could accept it because they were ready for the world.

Because in spite of loving them, we want them to become intelligent, self-supporting individuals. Hopefully when they leave home, we can become their friends and really enjoy them without so much responsibility. Kind of like grandkids.

Well, because we thrill at the idea of them making great things out of themselves.. of course, I have four that are 19 and above... all girls... and I would lke to keep them all around. They are too pretty though to even believe some guy is not gonna take them away eventually. *sighs* Stupid dad feelings anyway

Because we just make ourselves believe that we love our kids so much, to have the illusion that all the crap you have to take from those brats was worth it in some way. But obviously it wasn't.

Because they can't be bothered to feed us any more. They are fed up of tidying up after us and you lot want your kids to make their own mistakes. Don't worry, your kids love you back for not getting in their way of their independance, but hate you for refusing to do their weekly washing.

LOL,,,That my dear is normal for any parent.I used to do the same thing when my children were young.Untill they all grew up and moved on to thier own life.
The love for your children is true and real,,but sometimes they can get to you and that is when we need a break.
Do not worry my friend,,even when you get those kind of breaks from your children,,you still miss them from within.
