I have to take 2mg of Xanx 3 times a day for nerve pain it's the only thing that really helps me. I have fibromyalgia and I've been taking it for 5 years now. could someone tell me if their is any long term side effects I asked my Dr. and he said no but I don't always trust Dr.

Hi Brigette, there are non-addictive medicines that could help your pain from FMS. I take 800 mg. of Aleve and a 1000-mg. flaxseed oil capsule every night at bedtime, and I take Arnica tablets (a homeopathic herb) as needed for flareups. It works really well. Xanax is a dangerous drug especially if you stop using it abruptly. Yes it is addicting, and if you stop using it suddenly, you may have seizures and put yourself into a life threatening situation.
Have you been to a neurologist? Elavil is a drug that is used for nerve pain and it works for a lot of people. Also there is another alternative as far as nerve pain. A new medicine called Cymbalta has also been proven to be effective. You can check out these meds on the internet at www.webmd.com or a pharmacology website

i think you are lying, you would never be able to take 2mg's 3x a day for 5 yrs. and if your dr. told you not to worry then he is a quack. but i think your lying.

xanax is addicting i have saw many a person addicted to it . yes it is a from what i have saw very hard to come off of it . from others . my opion?

it is just like any sedative and geting off from it will not be easy, its a long step by step process.... if it does not help your nerval pain then you should stop taking it though...
