People spend 5 minutes backing into spots so they can pull out head-first later. However, it takes less time to do just go into the spot head-in and back out later. What's the deal?

I can back into a spot in less than a minute but I do not back into spots when other cars are coming behind me.

It's safer to back into a space (no traffic moving there) than backing out into traffic. Either way, you have to back up at some point (backing in, or backing out), so it makes more sense to back into the space and have better visibility as you pull out forward.

Also, most vehicles turn sharper in reverse than pulling forward. Getting into an awkward or narrow space can be accomplished much easier in reverse than several attempts pulling forward.

Finally, when backing into a space you can use your mirrors to easily see how close you are to objects around you. When pulling forward you have to guess how close you are to cars or objects next to you (and people often mis-judge -- resulting in dents in MY car!).

Bottom line, I find it much quicker, easier, and safer to back into spaces, then pulling forward to exit.

Some people just like to back in, and everyone doesn't take 5 minutes to do it. It is safer pulling out than backing out.

Maybe those kind of people like to plan for the future and sacrifice a little now to benefit later.

If I have to load stuff into my car's boot, I like to back into a parking space. That way I do not have to stand in the passing traffic while loading my car.

uhhh,,,, you definitely got it wrong....
allow me to clarify....

when backing into a parking spot, there is no obstructions or moving objects in the empty space, to the rear,,,,,BUT when backing out of same space,, not only is there moving vehicles, there are bicyclists, pedestrians, kids, animals, etc....etc...

understand now?
