Don't sleep. I never sleep on long flights. I get too tired and lazy after
getting off the plane and waiting in lines.
After take off, I meditate. Then read a little bit. Some News, some gossip. Maybe prepare for the trip, whether it's business or pleasure - you always have to prepare. Then I take a nap, hopefully dream a little dream (I don't consider this sleeping, cause it's only 3 - 4 hours max). Then I watch something, DVD, games, etc. About 30 mins. before the final approach I meditate again.
By the time I get off the plane, I have a lot of energy and no mental strain.
Try that for international flights.

try and get into the time zone you are travelling to adjust your sleeping and eating as much as possible to that eat lightly and drink plenty if you wear them keep contacts out till before landing and avoid makeup but use plenty of cream
that should take you a little while in the meantime i like to learn a few words of the place i am travelling to or another language i am learning and test myself
plan a project out - redecoration of a room, weight loss initative etc.

Bring a book to read, or a DVD to watch. Either way, be sure and have ear plugs to suppress the noise and crying of those unruly infants near you.

I like doing word puzzles and reading. You can take your headphones with you and listen to music.
Or just write down ideas, like a shopping list or a poem.
If you own a portable dvd player you can take that with you and watch some movies.

Just don't plan on reading something difficult and important and expecting everyone else to think the plane is a library!
