the power to a vehicle is always given on the rear wheel to help in steering. if it is given to the front wheel, the tyre wud burn off soon and in case of bicycle , the front portion is too light to create proper balance.

because then you would have to steer the bike with the back wheel and to do that the rider would have to turn around and then some ignorant people would ask why the chain of the bicycle is connected to the rear wheel and not to the front wheel
