it is not necessarily ignorance, in a large part it is a genuine faith or faith inspired by social or peer pressure.and more than this religious belief and the church are often the corner stones of a community, rejecting the faith of your fathers is also rejecting the community in which you live. America is a very conservative country and standing out from the crowd can be bad for your social life, career and sometimes your well being. America has a long history of anti-intellectualism, there was even a political party called the know nothings during the 19th century. no matter how much proof you provide it will be rejected because, for them, the bible is the final arbiter of truth. it is not ignorance that prompts rejection but faith and fear of the erosion of their society. most of these people are good, decent, generous, smart people. but if you go and live there for a while after being brought up in Europe, it does seems a bit 1984ish. one thing that really annoys me though is the constant perversion of the word theory, the creationists use it in the colloquial sense rather than the original scientific sense.

Well why do you single out US? ..Christians all over the world believe that God Created Man. Muslims all over the world do not accept evolution... Hare Krishna through out the world don't accept Evolution and where among the first to fight against it...
some like Bula'ia Aratyme may show much similarity between apes and Humans.. Just 2 Chromosomes ... Well then Fuse the 2 chromosomes and make an Ape into Man in the Lab ...
Can he do it ?
Similarity between species does not prove Evolution.. It proves same Creator. Apes have a purpose in Creation and so do Humans.
The Soul is the Same, either in Apes or in Human. This Fact is stated in Bhagavad Gita. The same soul when in Womb of Ape develops Ape like body, and same soul when in womb of Human produce Human like Body..
The Selection of Soul of Human mother or Ape Mother is there, so is the evolution of the consciousness of Soul from lower Species to higher. This is mentioned in Bhagavad Gita and other Vedic Literatures.
But it does not mean that humans came to existence as some apes evolved into Human... Just as in the present time we have thousands of Species existing, they have been existing since creation. and they where all created by God..

I never could understand what is so hard to understand about evolution, Its all about genes, and natural selection. It is a provable fact, unlike creation which only exists as a story in a book, with absolutly no evidence proving creationism or even that a creator exists. and yet people will argue to the death that theres no proof of evolution, which is an idiotic statement since theres tons of proof it just shows that they are uneducated and close minded fools. who'd sooner believe a story in a book than the world hitting them square in the face.

Evolution is not a fact it is a theory taught as fact. Get your facts straight.
"Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist who achieved lasting fame by producing considerable evidence that species originated through evolutionary change, at the same time proposing the scientific theory that natural selection is the mechanism by which such change occurs. This theory is now considered a cornerstone of biology."

After you realise it's a theory you can check this website out to read about all the holes in the theory they didn't tell you about in school:http://www.answersingenesis.org/

Regardless of the fact that evolution to many extents is true, how did the writers of the book of Genesis or the founders of many religions that are thousands of years old manage to get both stoned and drunk. I mean, those guys were probably poor as sh1t. How could they have afforded both their Captain f.u.c.k1ng. Morgan AND a G.D. dime bag? That doesn't make any sense. Lets just agree on one thing: whatever happened thousands of years (or even hundreds) before I was born is not worth my F-ing time. Try caring less about S.H.I.T. that doesn't matter. ..... I am so F-ing 1337.

They are blinded by Faith.
You can't argue with faith.
Faith minus reason equals ignorance.
The thing is that I believe you can easily believe in GOD and also believe in evolution.....it's just a false dichotomy we have propagated....
too many people take the Bible literally.......which in itself is interesting ...they know that the Bible is full of metaphors and parables etc. but they pick and chose which parts to take literally and which parts to take as literary fable or a lesson of sorts.
Evolution .....however will never be fully explained without taking into account the spiritual dimension ....
and so we have the grand conundrum...the catch 22 ....and only the truly wise can see the truth here....

I couldn't agree more about evolution, but you can argue there is more power in metaphor, symbolism and parables then there are in straight facts.
How does your mind communicate with the subconscious? Dreams. What is the most dense and meaningful way we communicate? Poetry, art, etc... all symbolic, not literal.
The problem of course is that most Christians have painted themselves into a corner by stating the Bible is 'fact'.
So they are left to defend such an obvious erroneous position *and* they loose the real power of the Bible.

Sorry but evolution is a "theory", not fact. there is still the problem of the missing link. And it's a pretty big one too. Also, I'm from one of the places where you can find a huge deposit of prehistoric bones. And wouldn't you know it, active Christians are digging them up. Yes the theory is out there, but for a while everyone thought the world was flat. Even if Evolution is proven, I know of a few religions that it wouldn't affect, mine included.

Because Christianity is very well embedded in American culture, and the Catholic church maintained for years that evolution was blasphemy, which propagated to the teachings of the Protestant church.
And of course, people don't question what they are taught when they are young, which leads to willful ignorance on the part of many people.
Remember, lots of people don't like wearing seat belts either...

For the simple reason that none of the evidence, when PROPERLY EVALUATED, is in favour of evolution. And BTW, these "ignorant" people that you are talking about, probably knows more about science and other stuff than you do. And while you are at it, check out the new book "Evolution Exposed" featured at www.answersingenesis.org where there is a free sample chapter.
