Sounds like you are trying to eat healthy foods. Most people start weight loss around 1200 calories. However how active you are will have a definite impact on your loss. The more active you are the more calories you burn. Keep your portions small and chew chew chew. The longer it takes you to eat the better as it takes about 15 to 20 twenty minutes for the stomach to register that it's full. Drink lots of pure water. If you get down below 1000 a day and don't lose see a doctor. You may have some metabolism issues.

The golden rule number one is to eat less calories than you burn.
The golden rule number two is that each meal portion must be not bigger than a size of the palm of your hand. Usually, there are 5 meals per day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are the main ones. And just fruits and salads between them (absolutely no salad dressings! Slightly sprinkle with an extra-light olive oil instead). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be any food you want, as long as it is not frozen ones or the ones that have long shelf-life. You can lose weight by only stopping drinking soda. I have seen it happen to many people. However, results will be better if you diet. If you also in a gym, you will see the results in 2 months, if you only dieting - in 4 months.

The key to weight loss is burning more calories than you consume. So, there isn't a magic number of calories that will assure your weight loss. Just try to make healthy choices when you eat and do some type of exercise that you enjoy on a regular basis. It is okay to eat meat, by the way, as long as it is low fat and grilled, broiled or baked and not fried. Also, eat fiber because it helps you to feel full. Anyway, good luck!

hi
This plan really worked for me so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

Good luck

Wow- the answers are all over the board.. but I did like the suggestion by Kami a lot.

I'd also let your doc know you're starting a diet, and let him/her give you some good info on what you should shoot for as far as calorie intake.

You can do it! ~~ Congrats for getting started !! ~~
