Like my grandmother would say that is like picking out pee from poop. You've just done that. You go through the whole Bible, I supposed and you've done that. You picked out one or two statements or sayings, you can't even backed them up with relevant scriptures and you presented a case? How sad. Did you find passages like in the Book of John where Jesus was talking about the love of God and Himself and His disciples? See John 3:16, read 1 Jonn - even start with Matthew where Jesus began His Ministry - about healing the sick, delivering demon possessed people, feeding the hungry and many, many more? You notice that I havn't answered your question as yet? Because it is rethorical. You need, really, to get a hold of a Bible and began reading it and let the Holy Spirit enlighten your heart about the questions you posed, because you havn't the faintest idea of what you are saying, nor the real meaning to the statements. Why don't you back up for a moment and read the entire chapter and verses and asked the Lord to help you to understand what you are reading, and what Jesus meant by when He said this or that? He is a loving God and he will give you the desire of your heart. But let me add one more thing before I leave. Jesus is Lord to the honour and glory of God, for every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. So watch what you are saying, because one day you have to bow and confess that that same Jesus is Lord. I pray that as you continue to seek that you will find the real and true Jesus in the pages that you persue. Love and be bless. I will love for us to talk about it. 917-842-4919.

Actually, Jesus did not write these words ( or any other words of the Bible). The Book of Luke was attributed St. Luke, but the actual author is unknown. Additionally, the book of Luke was written as late as the 4th century. Jesus lived in the 1st century. So the accounts of Jesus ministry as documented in the Bible, are exaggerated

The only thing Jesus may have been a hateful fanatic about is people using his fathers house in the wrong way . AS in Buying animals to bring in for sacrifice. He sure threw a temper tantrem in the one description.
The first quote you give I believe means that you must bring your whole family with you if you are to be a disciple of his.

Jesus was not saying that you have to hate your family. He is saying that if YOU want to be one of his disciples then you have to love him so much, and trust him enough that it seems like you hate your family, because Jesus has become the one thing in your life that you cannot live without. You would forsake all others just to serve him.

I would suggest taking this question to the pastor of a local church, so that any other questions that come up can be answered at the time that they arise.... this question is more for a personal conversation.

If in the event that you cannot or will not speak with a local person, please ask other questions here... you are sure to get someone who knows what they are talking about.

the meaning was lost in the translation,
Luke 14
26: "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
27: Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28: For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?
29: Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,
30: saying, `This man began to build, and was not able to finish.'

what he meant is to put no one else before GOD. and the duty of a disciple was to give up every thing and every one to do gods work. the people who translate the bible need to find better words to describe the original word or just leve it as it was written. some of the words used in the bible can not be translated into English because we do not have a word for it. so they substitute it

Why are you misquoting the Bible. Matthew 10:34) Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35) For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36) and ones foes will be members of ones own household, 37) Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; Then it goes on to verse 38, but you do not have that listed. The verses are talking about Christians following him when the rest of his family do not want them to. The verses are also talking that we should put no one before God, not mother or father. I think everyone should check their Bible before answer this person. He is not quoting the Bible, but only using his own words in place of the Bible. I read Luke and it does talk about hate, but if you would read verse 33 it is talking about giving up all your possesions ( mother, father, everything) and putting God first. The first one you quoted did not say anything at all about hate.

Jesus is not a hateful fanatic. He just tell you how it is. In the end of days he tells you that you shall not trust no one except him because everyone will end up betraying you. Mothers will betray daughters, fathers will betray sons and so on. When that time comes and you have a choice to choose JESUS or what ever other thing you worship then JESUS should be on the top of your list. People are trying to find reason not to believe in him because the hate the fact that one be in can have such power and much love and its not them. When I die I know that I die alone. I know that I have to answer to everything that I did on this earth. I don't know what is coming to me when I die because I never died before. Those people that don't believe is those people that wants to see JESUS crack open the sky and smut all their enemies to hell in order for them to have faith. But that is not how it goes. Faith is going by feeling without seeing. The best thing about JESUS is that he gives us the choice to choose. But he also uses us to do what we are meant to do. At the end the people that don't believe will end up believing. And those are the same people that calls out OH MY GOD, whenever they need help.

OK iread the scripture and I read it in its context and it does sound harsh. My belief is that the message is if you are going to hang around with me (because we are going to be persecuted and even tortured and mocked, you will not be able to say I can't do this because my family will suffer. So the context is not based in today. He is being harsh because if they are going to follow Him their life is gonna be harsh. This message does not regard followers of today but people there at His side who might have their families hurt because of Him and His message which was against the authorities of His time. Also if you wanted to truly understand this you would have to research the word translated as HATE and how it was understood in the society which He preached. It is bad enough that christians take messages out of context, but to dig into a scripture for the sole purpose of saying bad things about the author and then not actually studying it well is not only wrong but it will not work. In the end no one is going to listen to this unless they are already rebeling against God and you've already won them over so where is the gain. If you truly believe christianity does damage then you should study it and find the real errors and bring it to our attention. No one wishes to follow a teaching that is evil. Let me give you a clue, you are not going to find anything bad in the scripture itself, but you can in the church leadership of today. atHEY HAVE DONE A REALLY POOR JOB OF HOLDING THEMSELVES ACCOUNTABLE. tHERE IS THE AREA THAT YOU CAN FIND GREAT FAULT WITH. i MEAN REALLY HOW CAN THE CHURCH JUSTIFY BACKING bUSH A SECOND TIME opps. His behavior has truly been anti-christian value and they have not held him accountable. They need to apologize and follow scripture with him.

Humn. . . it is no right to quote this verse without the meaning of the chapter.

When you said that Jesus is such a hateful fanatic, have you read all the 4 gospels? Have you not come across in other parts in which he taught about love?

Love your neighbour as yourselves (not those neighbours that do you good, but all neighbour).

Love your enemy. (not jsut your friends)

Love one another as I have love you.

The 2 commandment that spells out by Jesus, which is summing up the entire law of Moses is, to love your God with all your heart, with all your mind and all your soul.

2nd command is, love your neighbour as yourselves.

In this context, it is to love God before men. Jesus does not teach his disciple to hold up arms to go against the enemy.

Remember in the olive garden when the romans soliders came? Peter cut off one of the guards ear? Jesus told Peter to stop nad healed his ear. Jesus teach us to love.

So pal, I urge you to complete the gospel, and than critic. Better that way.

In the normal college and university, this is the way the taught to read any given books. So, don't jump gun, but start from basic, read all given text.

Cheers,

Larry, I'm not sure whether it was meant in the context that you read it, but I must say that I am glad you are trying to make your point. You misunderstood that phrase, just as these friggin fundamental christians are misunderstanding the "Homosexual" phrases, and repeatedly throwing the bible at us.
