My TV supports HDCP (it's copyprotected) so I was wondering if I could still use a HDMI cable through the DVI port.

Yes, they are basically the same thing. HDMI adds digital audio to the DVI signals and uses a different connector. There are adapters available to go from one to the other. See http://www.ehdmi.com/adapters.html

Yes.
HDMI is the improved version of DVI that includes digital sound
DVI is for picture only

you'll need a DVI to HDMI converter/adapter

dvi is the early version of hdmi & it's compatiable with hdmi & the only real difference is hdmi gives you picture & sound & dvi only gives you a picture but they both present a pure digital signal the best (at the moment - hdmi 1.3 is coming) & you can find dvi to hdmi adaptors & cables if you only have one or the other
