fuel milage is always better in a standard...(if you shift it right)....
better control in the winter time... you can just push in the clutch and stop the engine from pushing the car...
makes you actually drive a car... instead of being in a box with two pedals that passes the time while you are on the phone or playing solitare on your laptop in rush hour (trust me I've seen it)
You have better control of the car too in case you loose control... (see winter time above)
There are probably others but there are probably tens of comments already posted telling you they suck when they are the better way to go...

Yes, better gas mileage, much better if you get stuck in the snow. You have more control over the engine. Use 2nd gear, less torque, tires grip better. I loved driving a standard. My current vehicle is a minivan and is an automatic.

I have the caravan with 4 cylinders, can't get out of it's own way. If I could shift, I could give it a little more get up and go. I don't know why people don't like a standard, other then it is more difficult to eat while city driving in one.

Besides a little better mileage, I think the best advantage is
that it keeps a lot of my friends from borrowing my car, when
they ask if they can & I ask them if they can drive standard,
most of them can't....so it makes it easier to tell them, sorry,
can't lend it out.
It just feels more like you are involved in the driving process
when you have to shift gears, plus I notice that the automatic
drivers seem to ride their brakes a lot. So driving a standard
would probably keep your brakes going a little longer, as you
can use downshifting to slow the car down.
The only downside, driving in stop&go commute traffic can
be a pain .

Yes, usually, I've noticed that standard cars are far cheaper to buy than automatic. Almost a grand less...

this could have changed in the last year or so...

At least you would have an awesome skill and become a stunt driver on those cool car commercials!

:O)

The clutch is almost dead. with CVT and shiftmatic the clutch is almost dead. The only problem with stock shift-matic is the lag. But you can mod that. Formula 1 shift in less than 100 of a sec

Better gas mileage. Its claimed that if only one driver operates it, the standard shift vehicle will last longer.
