It's no stranger than a blanket when you really think about it. If you're smart, you'll run out and buy a few pair of this little pink sock so you have many of them (one for the car, one for the diaper bag, one for grandma's, etc.) so you'll be able to wash it without her crying for it and if it gets lost or forgotten you won't have any issues.

AAAAAHhahhahaha that's so funny and cute. Don't stop her. Too many parents would do that just out of fear. Don't you want to know what its all about? Offer to accessorize the sock. Knit new patterns onto it. Upgrade it. Get her a bigger sock. Childhood is about play and creativity. Too many parents say NO! And that damages their exploration and curiosity. It also creates anxiety and lack of confidence later in life. If it is not hurting her and not affecting the necessities of her life, let her do it and it will be a cute memory to talk about on her wedding day.
And look on the bright side, if you have a 23 year old lady wearing a pink sock on her right hand, then you won't know where to find me... wait that's only good for me. Oh well, good luck.

Kids go through things like this. One of my friends daughters went through this with a pink slip (half-slip) that she had. She was about 4 or 5 at the time and had to wear that slip day in and day out. Under clothes. over clothes. over pjs whatever. Her mother had to sneak it off of her while she was sleeping in order to wash it, and this went on for months and then one day she just took it off, handed it to her Mom and said, "okay I'm all done with slippy." (that's what she called it). There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, but it worked out okay...I wouldn't worry about it. Children are unique, and it's always a learning experience.

you did not say how old your child is but i am guessing that she is really young?this is not weird...kids pick security items...your daughters just happens to be a sock!

i am sorry just read the comment above mine and i cant believe the nerve of some people...very rude!children should not be on a site that is suppose to be used for serious adult issues!

My son would play with socks like that. He did not have a specific one that he favored but around a year old he would put them to his ear and act like it was a phone. It was the cutest thing. Sometimes babies pick something as like there security object, something they just feel like they need around, maybe she chose her favorite sock. All babies do "weird" things, I just enjoy watching mine do these silly weird things =)

if this is the case... try a small blanket.... maybe a recieving blanket.... I think that's what they are called.... the small ones that look like soft cordoroy (however that's spelled too....) that might break the habbit... she's just getting into the fascination of carrying something around... and not she's not really weird... she just picked something weird to get attached to....

I think her sock has turned out to be like her favorite teddy bear. My daughter loves the single shot bottles that her uncle gives her. They are just her size and she can hold and suck on them perfectly. (We always clean them and a few we have filled with beans or beads. They make great rattles.)

That's not any wierder than my daughter's old fascination with her shoe. She used to take off her shoes and leave one where ever she felt like it, and the other one (usually her left one), she would cuddle like a dolly.

Its just her choice of a security item. My brother had a blanket, I had a stuffed monkey doll. She has just chosen something that makes her feel secure. It isn't weird, it is totally normal.
