God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
(Numbers 23:19)

My thoughts are that it means what it says - God is not a man (Jesus Christ was a man). God doesn't lie. Because God doesn't lie - he need not repent. What he says is good (faithful) - he'll carry it out. You can rely on him.

What are your sound thoughs?

Esther - are you saying that God is a man but he still doesn't lie? If so - I've got some problems with that one. Just want to know where you are coming from. The truth still stands that God is not a man & God is not a man that he should lie.

stybaj,
I knew someone else on another site that had a big problem with this verse. It's quite funny to see the mental impass he had, and it was also tragic. But here I go trying to explain it again!

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
(Numbers 23:19)

The verse is comparing God's ways with man's ways. God is saying that he is not as a man, who can lie, neither like a son of a man, who would repent of something He said, and then the rest of the verse is putting the whole thing into context:
If He says it, He will do it, then it repeats it using other words; if He speaks He will make it happen.

This verse is telling you not to compare God with man in this way. God fulfills His promises. You can trust Him. He will do what He promises to do.

Do you get it?

God is not a man.

However, God love man so much, and he choose to come in the form of man, and die on the cross for us.

Read Isa 53, and you will find the entire story of Jesus suffering predicted way ahead.

In John, chapter 1, verse 1 said, in the begining was the word, the word was with God, and the word was God. In verse 14, the word became flesh to dwell among us.

Why? The word of Jesus, and he is God, together with God in the creation, and became man, to live with us.

I do not know who you are addressing at. But who ever believe that Jesus is God, their mind is sound.

First part is Jesus Christ is actually the son of God--and the verse is relating to God being the supreme being and making good on his promises.

God is not a man. Jesus took on the form of man but he was perfect and did not lie. God makes good on His promises.

God the Father never became a man, God in any of 3 persons cannot lie. Nor has God in any of the 3 persons ever sinned, that His repentance would be required. Jesus Christ emptied Himself of His divine nature, veiled Himself in human flesh so that He could walk among humanity, & suffer & die so that our sins could be atoned for by a perfect sacrifice. Since ALL humans are born with the sin nature, (born of a man & woman's union) we cannot atone for our sins in & of ourselves,...which is why Christ came, a man but MORE than just a man...he was NOT brought forth in the same manner as all other humans, but by divine circumstance, therefore giving Him alone the ability as a perfect, sinless human. to make that atonement by His precious blood, His sacrifice, for ALL humanity!! At least those who choose to accept His wonderful gift!

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." 1 Tim 3:16

"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." I Corinthians 5:19

God became a man for the purpose of our redemtion to Himself.

Colossians 2:9
9For in him (Christ) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Philippians 2:5-7
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

It means Christ was not made to Lie, nor will he have to ask for forgiveness, what Christ says shell be done, as if God said it!

Christ the first created, the witness of God, is created perfect and is God, that he can not lie!

Brethren: Jesus is not God. Jesus is the "only begotten Son" of God; which means He is the only one of God's Sons to ever die, and be begotten from the dead. Jesus is also the Lamb of God. But do not accept the doctrin of the pagan who teaches that Jesus is God. For they can find no where in the bible to verify what they say; except for what the word says the meaning of Emanuel. But it does not say that Jesus is God.

Our God, whom we are made in the image thereof, can not die. And Had HE died on the cross; then all things would have ceased to exist; for it is the Spirit and power of God which holds all this together.

But God is not a "man" in our sense being human... for HE is immortal. And was the Original of which we are the copy. And remember also, there was a male and a female created on the sixth day. The male we call Our Father, the Word never tells us what we should call the female: Many mistake those two to be adam and eve. But if you read the first two chapters, you will see that this is not true. For on the sixth day; first the land animals were created, then later this male and female. But on earth; our home planet, first Adam was "made" in God's image, then after that, the animals of the earth were created to keep adam company, and then later, as almost an afterthought, eve was created.

But that male and female that were created on the sixth day had children. And the sons of them, took wives from the daughters of men here on earth. And it is the union of them which made the beings whom all our earhtly legends come from.

Remember also: God said that there are no other gods besides H.I.M.

Check it out for yourself:

p.s.
I see that you have gotten many pagan answers to this question you asked. Be careful of what you accept as truth. For I see many are saying what they've been "told" and not what they've read for themselves. So make certain that what you accept as your personal belief can be backed up with more than a verse; for many should confirm what is being interpreted.

As for the sad one who believes the bible is contradictory; definitly ignore that one, for I'd bet that that one never read the book completly through, for otherwise he wouldn't even dare to say what he said. But trust God's Word, and ask H.I.M. for understanding. You will see not only what I've told you, but even more if you trust in H.I.M. who created you in the name of H.i.m. that died for you. Selah

Ummm read it again.... it is NOT saying God is not a man (period) It is saying that God is not a man that he should LIE. It is saying God is NOT LIKE MAN, He will not lie.

Anyway, even if you don't accept that Christ is God. This is evidenced by people falling dowm and worshipping Him...He did not rebuke those who did. However when people fell down to worship Paul and Peter they said NOT SO, we be men like you....Christ accepted all form of worship...
