The best is the one that is free. Why pay when some of the major antivirus software has vunerabilites.

Honestly, it's a matter of opinion. You must take into consideration three variables:
1. Virus Detection and removal - Kaspersky is the highest rated here
2. Drain on system resources - AVG uses the least system resources in my experience, Norton and McAfee are the worst
3. Cost - AVG, Avast, and Antivir are all free
I use Avast because it has a higher detection and removal rate than most, it's free, and it isn't too big a drain on system resources. It also updates frequently.

do Avast it is a european version i have been using it is FREE for home use and it works better than mcafee and norton.
