ok..if i bought a desktop computer in the USA and wanted to use it in Australia, What adapters would I use?

I did just that. I have a laptop and my son has an X-Box from the USA. We thought that a normal converter would be ok.. but.. its not. We use different voltages in our outlets than Australia does. You need to get a voltage regulator. You can get them at any electronics store in Australia. I bought mine for 99 AUD and only had to change the fuse once in 20 months and it was used daily. Now you can buy them where all you have to do is flip a switch and you can use the regulator in Australia for your US electronics and use it in the US for your Australian electronics.
