Drunk driving, rape, murder, robbery are bigger crimes than overstaying a visa.

Hmmmmm... how about an illegal alien driving, hitting a US veteran on a bike with the car he was driving, and then trying to run away? The vet died from his injuries. I have not heard if the illegal was drunk. but we will now be supporting the illegal for manslaughter for a while in the local jail and then maybe prison. How much $$$$ is that a year for just one inmate? That accident would not have happened if the illegal was not here. As far as who is in prison and the jails. I worked in a small county jail. Most of the inmates were there for possession of illegal drugs, anything from marijuana to heroin. Then I had a number of inmates for drunkenness - driving or just being in public. Another high one was spousal abuse, male and female accused.... A great number of these ended up being repeat offenders and were sent to state prison for 1-3 years or more. I can count on one hand the number of murderers and rapists we housed. 5 and we were a small county. I am sure that Los Angeles Country would have higher number, but then the population is also much higher than where I lived and worked. However, the number of prison inmates who are there for victimless crimes far outnumber those with victims.

It doesn't minimize the fact that being an illegal alien/immigrant is still ILLEGAL and is punishable by law. The sentence is usually deportation.

Overstaying a visa is a lesser crime in my opinion. To answer your second question though, not necessarily. Some of the real criminals were released early due to the jails overfilling. Instead of spending money on deporting, we should spend more money for correction facilities so the real criminals stay behind bars.

You are comparing apples to oranges, obviously. I don't think anyone would say overstaying a visa is as bad as or worse than drunk driving, rape, murder, robbery. You're trying to say that it is okay that you are simply a "visa overstayer," but that is NOT okay. You are a criminal, also. Just not as bad as the other crimes you mention. Bunt, maybe you are an okay person who would never do anything worse than overstaying your visa, but how do we KNOW that? You have never been screened for diseases - you may be spreading TB or having unprotected sex and spreading HIV/AIDS. We don't know what kind of work you do - maybe you work within the food industry and are risking our citizens. Maybe you committed some terrible crime back in your country, murder perhaps, and you are trying to evade justice there. No, I don't think most Americans would want you in our jails, but we would like you to be deported back to your own country and then barred from ever returning legally because you defied our laws and basically thumbed your nose at us. I have seen many of your questions and answers on here and you are a very angry, "entitled" feeling person and you spout a lot of anti-American rhetoric, yet you seem to believe you should be allowed to stay in the USA and get amnesty. With your attitude, I don't think most Americans who have read you here would agree that you should be allowed to stay. If you had come on here with a different tact, perhaps not attacking Americans, you probably would have attracted more sympathy from people. But, instead, you chose to be demanding and "entitled" and anti-American, and so the types of responses you get here should not surprise you. I don't want you in our jails so our tax dollars have to continue to support you, but I DO want you deported and I feel very confident that you will be. The crackdowns that are starting to happen and ripple across the country are eventually going to get to "visa overstays," so I wouldn't get too comfy, if I were you. So, go ahead and reap the undeserved benefits of living here, while you can, but you can never stop looking over your shoulder, and that cannot be a happy, relaxed, secure way to live.

Well, let me answer your question. All the crime you mentioned in your question are affiliated. A person whose visa is invalid, then he drives while he is drunken, after that he rapes because he is drunk, and then robbery progress, final step is murder in order to clean the crime scene. So what is a bigger crime? Of course Overstaying a visa is the bigger crime.

we have enough of that here and now we have added people who are not supposed to be here doing those crimes as well as some people who may not be rapist or murders but who just came illegal but still a crime no less and you may not spend years in prison for that illegal crossing act but you could be sent home ouch now is that so bad then you could try and come legal a real hassle i know but well worth the cost of freedom and not being stuck in that terrible country you escaped from what you say its beautiful there and unless i have been there to shut up and America is full of racist Nazi people well no need to worry just don't come back easy maybe you should try Germany i hear its beautiful or how about Iraq

Among them rape and murder always carry a death sentence
but murder is greatest because a life is taken that is in real terms
but before God all crimes are equal.

yes, criminals are overfilling prisons, that's why we send illegal immigrants back to their home country. You can just focus on certain crimes, the goverment has a huge responsibility to protect it's citizens, which means they have to cover a wide variety of threats. Remember, illegal immigrants can also commit all those other crimes you mentioned too!

No worries 'cause those that are overstayng their visas are getting deported and not going to be housed in prisons, they may spend a night in a local jail before being shipped out. Unless of course they are sentenced to time in prison for doing any of those things you mentioned which they will most likely serve a portion.
