That is a question I would open for discussion with your guests. Some may feel that it could help them relax, but others may feel like it distracts them. You would probably be better asking the guest and just see what the majority favors. I not familiar with a drawing room, but that seems the best way to go.

You might possibly want to consider piping the music in from another room with AirTunes and an Airport Express. I've done this and it works very well.

Make sure the speakers are aesthetically pleasing, and the music playing is pleasant and un-distracting if you do, you might want to think about the different sytems you can buy (2.1, 5.1, 7.1) and the stereo you're attaching them to.

Yes I do...it's a nice and thoughtful touch. I find music playing as background (not overpowering) enhances most situations.
